no one here is ever tl:dr unless I have no idea what they are talking about.
We play with some pretty mixed bands. Usually most are pretty heavy, but we've played with some 70s rock bands as well. Booking shows for Supervoid is freaking tough though... I feel like when we play the metal shows we're too progressive/not heavy enough, the rock shows our vocals are too metal, and the stoner shows? I dunno, I guess our music is too weird for a lot of people. But there's usually a few people in every crowd that really dig it.
I kinda want to try a faital now. Sounds like I may dig it more.

When John K did that 2x15 build that was pretty close to being a Dually and recorded clips with both speakers, I honestly could not hear a difference. Obviously listening to a recording through computer speakers isn't the best way to demo speakers, but sometimes I'm glad I don't have picky hearing. Makes gear selection a lot easier lol.
I know and I listened to those same clips and picked the 3015 from them. In the same listening environment.
Hey guys. To follow up the question of what types of genre you play with, you all seem to have different types of music you play with live but what size area does that cover. Over here in the UK outside the major cities there's often very little scene. For example the only metal band I've seen in my county is a keyboard metal group. Pretty cool but not really my thing (until I find a keys player into The Small Faces and The Stranglers but that's a different story).
Basically I'm just interested to know how far you guys network with local bands to get a decent live show together.
Also on another point are the bands you generally get gigs with the type of stuff you would listen to otherwise or is it just that you get lumped in with them? Some of you have given a decent idea of that already but it's one of the things I find really frustrating personally.

No, they're nothing like Slipknot and even if they were, I'd rather spend that money on other things.

What is "keyboard metal"? Catapult the Dead has a keyboard player (though he also plays guitar sometimes), and my old black metal band had keys, but they sound quite different.
I don't really do the booking in my band, so I'm not sure. Last couple gigs have been house party shows, though, with other bands we know.

Like I said I like it, but in terms of metal this is all there is in my town. My main point of interest was how far afield you have to look for people of similar interest. I'm not looking for statistical definites, more anecdotal stuff but I see how that would be difficult if you're not involved in that side of things.

My friends crust punk band plays with all kinds of punk, metal and ska stuff, but I am not a fan of what CDs he's brought back from shows. Noisy vaguely something's with screaming. No one gets paid and someone's always getting beaten or thefted or drunk/drugged to excess so I haven't felt like going yet.
This sounds like a good sort of show. I imagine it wouldn't translate well to repeat listening on CD though. Also I wouldn't be surprised if imagination is better than reality in this instance.

There's a few bands that are local to Madison that we play shows with, or want to play shows with. For a town of 250,000 there's a lot of stoner, good metal, noise rock, punk rock, etc. So there's no shortage of cool bands to play shows with. Milwaukee and Chicago are close as well so we get bands from those cities sometimes.

Isnt conan from london? Who do they play with?
Conan are from Manchester (I have a horrible feeling they're actually Liverpudlian which is a massive faux pas) but it isn't really from London. I am seeing them in the Summer though. They did a tour with Bast recently which I was apparently amazing but I couldn't get there.
If you're talking about a town having 250,000 people then the UK might as well be one place though My town has 80,000 and it's the county town of one of the biggest counties of the UK. I dunno how a county compares to the US though.

I live in the city of Denton Texas population 121,123, the Denton county seat while the county has a population of 707,394. Denton is the 27th most populous city in Texas. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex I'm a part of is 6.7 million people.
