I dig Jerusalem/Dopesmoker, but Sleeps Holy Mountain is where it's at. I think the production varies from song to song on that one. The first couple sound pretty rough, but by the time you get to Aquarian or Holy mountain it's really goddamn heavy. Maybe it's just my ears getting used to the way it sounds, but if you crank the volume it sounds killer.

I've listened to that album thousands of times since I first heard it when I was 14 or 15 and it never gets old.

I was a little disappointed by Jerusalem when it came out. I had been reading about it for years and imagined it to be more of an epic journey of an album, rather than a drone with subtle variations on the same riff. It's great, but I don't think they made the most of the format of a 1-hour song.

I tried to listen to Holy Mountain like 5 different times in my car, which normally just about every album sounds awesome in. I could never get past the production quality. Then one day I played it in my wife's car and it sounded incredible, and I started listening to it all the time.

the redskins murdered my soul long ago so thats not the cause. im happy as can be today, got a snowday, listening to pink floyd, and hanging around. ironing out the finishing specs on my soon to be ordered EGC T-bird and looking at wood.

And the EGC headstock is awesome, but demands a symmetrical double cut style body for me.

I enjoy throwing on Dopesmoker when I'm doing some mindless tasks at work where I can shut my brain off and let it get pummeled by sludgy riffs. I need to check out Holy Mountain.

I about froze my nuggets off on a wintery run after work, even with my winter gear. Played the Fuzz album the entire way through, man it gets better with every listen. There's a part where there's a bass & drum breakdown and you can hear guitar amp noise in the right channel and it's just a great little detail!

According to my guitar player(huge sleep fan. Actually owns one of the green amps used for recording dopesmoker.) Holy mountain was there demo that they sent to relapse(?). Relapse apparently liked it so much, they released it as is.

As for my opinion on production value. Although my love of sludge (crowbar, eyehategod, 1st soilent green, acid bath) stems from a child who grew in southern Louisiana and has lasted just as long. My second love has always been grotesque poor quality black metal. I have a distinct appreciation of poor quality metal. I've always felt it conveyed a certain foreboding character.

EDIT: I say 1st soilent green because I don't really consider soilent green as a whole sludge. The first had the most elements of sludge. Same for acid bath. I don't really know what I would categorize acid bath as.

Got a free randall 215bh at jam spot yesterday, the land lord was emptying an abandon room and called us for first picks, it needs both new drivers and the input is pushed in through the jack plate, its currently carpeted but I intend on put duratex on it. Pretty solid shape structurally, has three ports down the side kinda like a sunn BH cab, I'd imagine their quite similar in tone. Good match with the Ampeg 6x10 or the 4x10 1x15.
I'll post pictures tonight if I end up going up there again, might be trying out a second guitarist finally!

Yeah I wasn't sure at all which label it was (thus the (?)). I was solely going off the memory of a story my gp told like 3 months ago.

I love Holy Mountain because it just sounds like exactly what it is; some dudes playing with some mics thrown up. Sometimes that is really refreshing.
