Got a promo for this album a few weeks before it came out. It was just after graduating high school, this was part of the soundtrack to that summer.

That's funny because I was literally just coming in here to "boast" about going to see sleep tonight in Denver. Great news.

I honestly was never that huge into Dopesmoker. I'll listen to it now and then, and I have it on vinyl, but I was a much bigger Holy Mountain fan. If they can put out a full length that has at least 3 or 4 songs that are as hooky and gnarly as Dragonaut I'll be happy.
I feel the same way. Holy Mountain was the first album I heard from them and it's still my favorite. I never got that into Jerusalem/Dopsmoker. A lot of people hold that up as their artistic pinnacle, which is a valid opinion, I just don't share it personally. I appreciate the riffs and hooks over the celebration of how long the song can be. Not to say that's the only thing Dopesmoker has to offer, but I do appreciate the sort of "narrative beats" of a good song structure and album structure a lot more.
I'm with you and Corey whole heartedly about this one. I'll listen to dopesmoker but holy mountain keeps me coming back.

I prefer dopesmoker over holy mountain. Even Volume 1 I think is more interesting but it could be that I really hate the production on Holy Mountain...I know it was a demo but still it's not fun to listen to. But I may have to revisit it again soon.
Not sure how excited I am about a new Sleep album though. These "reunion" type albums are rarely good.

I really like them. All the albums are must haves in my opinion. I stole so many mammoth volume ideas/riffs/locks on our first record

Im one of those people, I listen to Dopesmoker on an almost daily basis, I enjoy Holy Mountain, but Dopesmoker is their masterpiece, IMO. It embodies what stoner/DOOM is at its core for me.
If they have Antarctica's Thawed on the new record I'll be a happy man.
