Stoner/DOOM Bassists Part 83: WHAT YEAR IS IT?

So I was watching demo videos of the US Rat2 last night and they all seem to have way more gain on tap than mine. I had distortion at noon and it was still in OD territory - edging closer to distortion. Distortion at noon on the videos was pretty damn heavy and distorted. I wonder if I've been Reutz'ed already? I'll have to take it apart and look next time I'm at the practice spot.

Technical question.
I have been saving for a bass head but also have been wanting to land one of those old Lab Series amps for guitar on the cheap in the meantime. A guy on ebay turned one of the L5 2X12 combos in to a head. It has an 8ohm minimum extension speaker out. So if the old internal speaker connectors are left inside and not used is it ok to run an extension cab of 8 ohms. Like does that mess up the amp or mess up a cab with those internal speaker connectors not hooked to any speakers?

Visited some family this weekend... They should really just start cooking with pepto bismol because it would save me a step. Talked with the wife and making plans to go strong after the new year and get the band started up again. All I need are a few good musicians who are on our wavelength and don't mind driving to Beaver. Hrm.

I say safer and easier to drill a hole and just add a speaker out with the old wiring. It may or may not work without the main speaker connection. You could find a wire diagram and maybe ask nick to take a quick peak.

I would commute for Beaver, especially for hairless Beaver!!!

Actually you don't have to do anything. Looks like the speaker out to the "combo" is with a removable cord. IE you plug the speakers in the combo in. So no mods necessary.

Well, right now I'm uploading 2 of VEGAs best tracks we have recorded to a new bandcamp I made kinda drunkenly last night...but I believe music should be listened too, I didn't spend the last year helping creating these songs to not have them heard. Even when VEGA gets back together, maybe this will help us bounce back a bit quicker. And if we don't then I hope people enjoy a band that I enjoyed the shvt out of being a member.

And if it really becomes that big of a problem with the drummer/guitarist who doesn't really have a say right this moment, I'll just take it down.

Should have the tracks up in a hour...but here you guys go, VEGAs EP

I find my Rat to be the most input-volume-sensitive drive pedal I've used. High output from the pickups = more gain on tap, low output = more OD range on the Sustain knob. Try some different instruments with different outputs or play with the volume on a high output one and see if you find tone more to your liking?

I dont have any active instruments, so can only vouch for this in passive land. This is opposed to, say, a Muff pedal, which in my experience can only be clean/overdrivey with barely any signal going into it, and even then they're pretty hairy.

I was using an active bass with the bass knob boosted a bit. I'm really happy with the tone I was getting, it's just different from what I'm seeing online. Of course the demo videos I watched were for guitar and not bass so that may have something to to do with the difference.
