Stoner/Doom Bassists thread 31: We never sleep

I found a girl in my class who shares a 3 bedroom house with another girl and they use the third bedroom as a music room and it's a drummer and guitarist.
It's not stoner doom, but I see a garage rock/grunge thing maybe coming out of this, and they got a house to use!

In seriousness though, it gives me a chance to use my Bronco bass and maybe keep my carvins combo shell. How doom is a 2x10 and no dirt?

Yea I figure the Tube side of the BX500 and my VT would be fine. The bronco sounds really nice and growly even at low volumes on my GK head so it'll be nice.
BTW, how are string manufacturers measuring their string gauge? the strings on my EB-0 handle the BEAD tuning so far without a setup really well, not too floppy, but I have no idea what string gauge they are.
Since TB was down I started going through every single Small Stone artists. Surprisingly, as many bands that I really like from SS, there's also a lot that I really don't like.

My shoulders hate me for it already. I've got knots like ball bearings in my traps from jamming for 4 hours Saturday night and I just unloaded a truck full of windows. I may need to start buying Biofreeze in bulk.

So I got to rock out with the EBMM HH 5 string at practice yesterday, and have mixed feelings about it over my P. So I posted the following elsewhere since TB was down and thought I'd repost it over here to see what you guys have to say...
So lately I've been having a few issues with my setup as of late. I currently use a P-Bass Tuned BEAD using an EMG alnico P-bass setup for pickups. It sounds great and is uber quiet but the lower notes (d# down to B) don't resonate and are not as powerful as any notes above them. I understand this is a 34" scale bass so the B will never be as great as a 35" bass. So our guitar player brought me his EB MM5 HH to clean up and setup so i decided to try it at band practice yesterday. It fixed many of the issues I've had, such as volume before clipping (the output is huge in comparison to my P) but that was mainly when I had the low eq on the bass cranked. Great tone clean, but it did not play well with my pedals at all (aside from the megalith). So I've been pondering what i could do to my P to get it like the EB but have it play well with pedals, here are my ideas.
1) Convert the P back to being a passive bass (i have everything to do this prewired and ready to slap in). Then pickup an MXR 10 band EQ (it has the frequencies I would want to sculpt more then the 6 band) to crank the low end and increase the level of the signal to that of an active bass, without changing the impedance, thus maintaining the interaction with my pedals. I would also with this setup sell / trade my megalith for a verellen big spider (I love the ML but it just doesnt blend as well with my band as the BS did).
2) Buy an EMG BTC to replace the tone pot on my P so i can crank the bass and output level. This would render the EQ pointless, but at the same time make my tectonic shift pretty much useless (the super fuzz side does not like active basses at all). So I would keep the ML and replace the TS with the BS and probably a bluebeard (to keep mah muff tonezes).
Option 1 would keep me from having to replace batteries in the bass, and definitely have a more vintage tone. Option 2 would have more upkeep but have a high output more modern tone....

If it was a cheaper P bass, I'd look at the GFS or other people who made MM style buckers and install one like a string ray and make it work.

I never have any problem with my active basses and my effects. I don't know if it's a matter of pedal and bass choices in general, settings, signal chain, gain staging or what. I do always run my tuner first in my chain, which is usually a buffered pedal, don't know if that has something to do with it. I have noticed a lot of other players seem to run their tuner last in their chain, but I like to get a clean signal to it and I use it as a mute.
I thought about doing exactly that, except i was gonna route it out and make my own pickguard so i could put the MM style pickup right next to the neck for ultimate in deep tones. But it's alot of work compared to just swapping pickups and throwing an EQ pedal into the mix, not sure it would provide enough of an improvement to go through all the effort. I really just want some more low end from my P, and have it play well with my pedals.

This is the test fit of the Fuzz im building for Oldcrow. This switches are closer to the footswitch than I would like but it'll do for now. I hope to start soldering tonight.
I run my tuner first as well with a volume pedal at the end of the chain, and usually I don't have many problems but I do use a superfuzz pedal and those are notoriously finicky about whats in front of it. They don't like buffers or active electronics.
