Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 11 - "Bath Time"

The second Sunn Beta 205 is mine!!! :bassist:

The guy is gonna hold it for me until I sell the B2R. Hopefully I'll sell the B2R this week.

Sunn 4x15 here I come! My guitarist is going to hate me.

There is also an old Kustom 15" combo on CL that I'm going to pick up once the B2R is sold. I should have enough left over for a new set of string for the P bass as well. It should be another good week.

I'm really happy I decided to make the 45 minute drive out to jam with some fellers today. I thought it went really well. I liked the songs they had in proto-form, and I think they enjoyed some of the stuff I threw out to jam on as well. The hang seemed to be there as well (at least it was on my end). I'm pretty sure we'll be getting together again soon (we mentioned facebook invites and junk at the end). Still, after the last two jams I went on not working out, I have to admit I'm nervous like a teenager after a first date. Will they call? Did they like me as much as I liked them? This step is always so damn awkward.

(I think I'd be cooler with it, but in the past, even when I've been invited back to play again I've had the invite revoked once the entire band had a chance to talk. That time in particular it turned out we weren't on the same practice/making it big dreams page, but still...)

Sooo their is a hole on my board where the rotovibe is/was, What can i put their?? I'm covered for fuzz, phase, od, delay, and wah. What's left? I don't want a octave, whats left?

Looks like things are on track. I'm really pumped to have some people to play with. It makes everything so much easier when the structure of a band is place.

I just jammed with a drummer friend yesterday it was different, but fun to just jam with no structure. But structure is needed now so time to start looking for the other pieces. Glad to hear you had a good time, i did with my jam.

sam how is the OSD with the matamp? have u tried it yet

just did, but just at home so not really a fair test as I was barely able to turn up. I can't see it not working well though. It really is the best sounding OD I have tried. More versatile than the Dark Driving as the controls have a lot more range. I find with the DD it's either on or off and nothing in between. Where the OSD the tone and drive controls can really get you lots of different tones (none are quite like the DD though so that's why I'll probably keep the DD for now). The OSD is also less picky about which bass you are using, the DD can sound better with some basses and not so great with others.

put it this way though, most pedals i wait until at least 2 or 3 rehearsals with the band before applying velcro. It only took about 15 minutes of me playing at home to velcro the OSD and took it straight to a gig...it went on to my board faster than the Bluebeard.

SVT diagnosis is in:

In the power amp there's:
1 dead 6550, 1 weak 6550, both 12bh7 test "fail" (low).
The electrolytic caps are a bit of a shambles…
There's a large power supply resistor with a cracked lead.
A couple resistors in the power supply test open.
In the preamp:
two "old stock" 12dw7 test "fail" (low on one side)

i thought my tech was good but there is no excuse for him to have missed all of that when I took it to him a few weeks ago. :rollno:

so now we wait to see how much this will cost. i may just have to just get rid of it. :crying:

I was in for 400ish (can't remember) when i lost 2 power tubes and 2 resistors but got six sovtek 6550's with that.

My price is right guess is $350 (not having any clue what your tech charges)

I wouldn't get rid of it. Once it's all fixed up it should be good for a while. Cap job and new tubes it should be all set.
