Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 82: Comfortable with Derision

mmmmm, Mastodon. Favorite band.

Kelliher's sig Gibson is dope as ****, too. And the custom First Acts....

Damn, does everyone in that band have a signature instrument?

A Brann Dailor snare would be absolutely boobies.

Mastodon are my favourite cats, too. I remember the first time I heard Leviathan...totally blew the doors open to sludge, stoner and doom music for me. That was at a time when I was downing nu metal like cough syrup.

Ah, high school.

Mastodon came along in my circle right about the time I was also discovering Converge and Isis. Many moons ago, but totally shaped what I listen to now

I didn't discover Converge until a bit later on but Isis and other post-metal acts crept in shortly after discovering Mastodon. I think Converge starting making appearances in my CD walkman around the time I discovered The Dillinger Escape Plan.

I'm telling you, the years between 2003 and 2005 completely changed my life musically.

Then everything went downhill after I started listening to Kyuss...then Sleep......then Electric Wizard lol.

I'm so poor I'm drinking a twelver of Busch Light this evening. I think they age it so long that it isn't always finished brewing when they stick it in the can. Oh well...at least Kyuss is on my turntable.

'Effin love Mastadon. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where Brett was sober. I always imagine Bill would be a great guy to chat music and gear with.

Cheers, fellas.

So I threw $250 at a guy on kijijji for a sm7b and have not heard back. Must not be interested.
Besides that I got a quote from bass central on a g&l l2000 which is pretty reasonable. 1400 shipped. I love the way they sound in all the clips I see but never played one. Anyone have any hands on with one.

I downed a 6'er of this Dutch beer last night over dinner. Crispest and tastiest brew I've had in a while...which isn't saying much since Australian beer tastes like piss. Cheap as chips, too. $30 for a carton (shuttup, that's considered cheap here don't judge me I'll fight you)

I don't think I've seen Brent PERFORM sober haha. That guy's an animal. They all look like genuinely rad dudes to shoot the **** with.

I thought remission and leviathan were great records but then mastodon dropped off pretty hard IMO

I disagree. I think their peak was on Crack the Skye. Its not just my favourite Mastodon record...its my favourite record - period. The thought process and attention to detail on that album is jawdropping. The concept behind it hit home pretty hard too. I gladly forked out $80 for that LP after months of trying to track it down. I'm trying to find a copy of the special edition one which I will gladly fork out a small fortune for haha.

Blood Mountain was great but I felt it died down towards the end of the record. The first 3/4 is boss, though.

Sheesh, man. At thirty bones a case I'd be drinking mouthwash. A guy I grew up with moved to Minnesota for college and always brings me back a case of Boxer when comes into town. It's less than twenty bucks a case and beats any other cheap beer I've had in my life. It's no masterpiece but, damn, it's like fifty cents a beer.

I liked the first couple Mastodon albums from start to finish. I do find myself skipping over a couple songs on the latter albums, though. All-in-all I like every one. New album in
2014, too.

Chris Aiken bass shipped at $274 two business days. The bass vi was listed as in stock within week so I almost bought it but the guy said they just got a memo that next week is now next year...

Soo I guess orange will come sooner than later, I dont care to preorder a bass vi it's not going anywhere and used might be an option soon

I'm lucky I'm a very cheap drunk. It only takes about five full-strength beers to get me sloppy. I've got mates who can down a case in an afternoon and still function...albiet barely.

I've also started drinking whiskey lately. Still getting used to it. Its growing on me, though.
