Should I make a Thunderbird? Possible a non-reverse Thunderbird?
Not a fan of non-reverse. They hit me wrong on ergonomics.
But the answer to either is yes. Make more basses, always make more.
I love the aesthetics of tbirds, but can't get over the ergonomics, but everyone is different. Incidentally, I've got a tbird body for sale if you're interested! Ash with Quilted Maple top, dark brown satin finish. Takes fender necks, dual J routes, hipshot bridge.
Make one that doesn't neck-dive like a MF'er and I'd be interested. Also not a fan of the non-reverse, though maybe having that upper bout would counteract some of the neckdive...
I'm conflicted.
I'm still on a new p bass kick but if I find the pickup I like for my black p I would love a rd artist style bass.
With regards to the T-Bird, I like the look, but would never own one. I'm a casualty of the ergonomics.
I love the way the NR look, never played one in person. If I did make it, I'd just get over the ergonomic awkwardness and have it for coolness I think.
I've seen it, looks cool, but I just wanna make something to make it. I'd probably do it as a Fenderbird, since F type necks are cheap and easy to get. Unless I feel like making a neck for the first time...but I don't really.
I've had a few basses that had neck dive like crazy, but I just liked the sound of or looked really cool. Maybe customize the body shape of a NR Thunderbird a bit to make it unique and not neck dive.
Yeah...always thought those were sweet looking. I just don't do actives. I'm not sure if they made any passive RDs. Sure, you can run most actives as passives, but I have a deep-seated dislike of active electronics.
Yeah, my Warlock dives, so did my epi T-bird. I was used to it and it didn't really hinder my playing. Then I got a bass that didn't dive and I was like "OH, this is how it's supposed to work." Now it would be tough to go back.
Yeah, I used to have an Ibanez Iceman bass that I had setup for B and it sounded great. Every time I let go of the neck, it slammed its headstock swiftly into the floor. I don't really miss that at all.
My Tbird has neckdive like a mofo, too. Warlock's not bad, but then again the strap buttons were moved at some point.
Just did some work on my Warlock and it rules...but not as much as Chinabacker so in the case it stays. I gotta get new strings on my real Ric; the current ones are deader than doornails. Nice n thumpy but I ain't exactly doing Motown covers these days.
I always preferred the look of NR T-birds but truth be told, while I've played tons of "regular" and non-reverse Firebird (guitars) and quite a damn few T-birds, I don't believe I've ever played a NR T-bird.
