Whelp, Mace sounds awesome but is basically unusable for vega, which is a super bummer.

But I dont think its the heads problem...I actually think its my guitards problem. Since he runs a guitar stack and a bass stack his sound is so full range, he sounds awesome alone or in the mix, aka he is the mix. I as the bassist either need to cut through it or be uber dub. Well my SS Peavey they do dub okay but dont have enough clean power to do it perfect, this Mace it cuts, cuts hard. Sounds awesome doing it, IMO it was the best Ive ever sounded.

Then my guitarist said "wheres my bassist?" In which I replied "right there" pointing to his bass stack...he doesnt get that he makes it super hard for me to fit in tone wise and doesnt want to compromise...

Ive always had problems finding my tone for this band...

I know I have a reputation for suggeting greenboy gear, and it isnt your speed...

That said, I can dominate a mix. Like "Fuq yo couch! Charlie Murphy!" style. Low end? I own it. Mids? Mine. High end? If I need it, it is there. Those mids are something to work with, and understand how to use, and not what everybody is used to hearing out of their bass rig.

That sounds like a pretty simple fix. Walk over to his bass amp, and turn it off. Everyone gets their own sonic space. Play him some Monobrow.

This is the real answer, but some times it is nice to demand your own space.

That amp should be OK for a reasonable band practice and any gig with PA.
Most people say those sounds like turds. My experience was meh but not terrible.
Can sound good, takes EQ work but my god are those cabinets "boxy" sounding.
Really if you can get a head and cabinet separate so you can mix and match trading up to better stuff.

Well, local CL also has a GK cab...I think it's 4X10s. $200 I believe. I keep thinking I should try to snag something like that then get a head later.

If I could find the right Peavey head that would work with the wattage rating of the GK (or other cab I might stumble across) that would work, right?

Sheezus, I used to be so up on this stuff but after stopping gigging around 2000, technology has changed considerably.

I see you guys talking amp rigs and it might as well be a combination of Sanskrit and calculus as far as I'm concerned...

buy the RB400 from the GC website, talk that dude down to $150, and you're gigging for $300 (plus shipping).

Pick up that RB for $150 and that Kustom 2X15 Tuck N Roll for $150 or cheaper. No used Avatar cabs on your CL. I had a little 2X10 that pounded and picked it up for $150 think that thing would do like 500watts.

I thought the guitar & bass tones worked well together on the Vega CD, what's different about your live setup?

Then fuzzes, octaves (up & down), synths, etc. come on and the best-laid plans go to pot.

I think too many guitarists want to sound like bassists, and want their bassists to have the same tone/just fill out the extreme low end. And too many bassists want to run wild through the mids with no low end. Slotting is where it is at, and it takes communication between the two parties. I am fine givng up some mids if the guitar wants to dominate there, and depending on the band I will play not only below them, but above as well.

My biggest struggle with recording heavy bands has always been convincing the guitarists that they don't need to sound as heavy as possible solo. The mix sounds way better if they don't and there's room for everything in the mix. Usually it takes wasting a lot of time to prove it to them. The last time I just pulled up one of my personal demo tracks, then slowly muted all the other instruments until they could hear the guitar tracks solo. So they could see that we could start with a guitar sound that isn't huge and full range solo and end up with a heavy full band sound.

He just wants thud, to be the bass drum that is what bass should sound like in a band to him. Feel it I guess, but not really hear it, bump bump, bump bump.....
I thought I had my Orange really dialed in and he was where is the bass knob Joe.

Im not opposed to running a sciency greenboy, it could easily be the answer to my woes, but im not gonna drop a G on something custom like that and find out its not what I want. I need a test drive first, then ill sell my wall...id love nothing more than be able to do one head, one cab for Vega, I have GH for my wall of amp needs.

Nothings different, its probably studio magic. Aka turning down the bass on guitar in mixing.

My guitard is now telling me, I run too much distortion and fuzz and it muds up the mix...he runs some crunchy amp gain, no distortion or fuzz. Our music needs over the top fuzz, if he doesnt run it, I will. If its getting muddy, its because hes too bassy. He just doesnt get it.

That sucks Max, not really any solution if dude won't change his approach. Boost mids everywhere you can and hope for the best i suppose.

Being one of the only, if not the only person here to see vega live? Whats your take? Is my bass bassy enough? Is his sound dominating bass wise? This all in from in our practice space, in which the space itself could be the problem...

Also apparently Texas is one of 6 states to prohibit open carry. a texas tradition since the state began I think, surprising as that may seem. Well it's just become legal to pack heat openly.

Maybe something more fun will become legal soon.
