I mentioned I put an amp in layaway and I got them to throw an old Squier P-bass in the mix. The bass is "Baltic Blue." My first thought was to refinish it in ivory, but I have come more and more to like the blue. Pics below (not of my specific one.) It is a darker blue, non-metallic, and to my eyes it has a little more green to it than the more "true blue" the pics show. Definitely blue, but the touch/tint of green does give it a sort of oceanic look to me.

Anyway, I figure tons easier to swap out a pickguard rather than do a refinish, right? And it so happens I have three P-bass guards that I think I could get to work.

So, question--if I keep the Baltic Blue, I have a black (b/w/b) pickguard I could use. The only thing I'm not crazy about on this one is that it has the neck pocket route for truss rods accessed where the neck joins the body, but that's not a big deal.

I also have a reddish tort guard and a brown tort guard that has quite a bit of yellow flecks in it.

Once I get the thing home I'll take some pics of it with each guard, but that is going to take some time. It'll be in layaway for at least a couple more months.

Or does anyone think I should just ditch the blue? I think the blue looks pretty cheap with the white pickguard, but I think it could be kinda sharp and uncommon looking with one of the others.

That a super thick poly so refin is out the question less you have a belt sander.

But honestly unless you have good skills and time and cash leave it blue. I've mucked up a black squier bass using a sander and chemical strip. it's a cool project if you got any of those variables, but if you don't best case scenario is you've dismantled your only working bass for an extended period if you sell the other.

From what I understand, they are a ***** to open up and service, but it may be worth more than what he's asking in parts to the right seller. I'm not sure though. If it's just another $50 for the head and cab, I'd do it just to sell for parts.

yeah, there is a shortage of good bass gear on Vancouver Island, so i could probably sell the cab for more than i paid for the whole works plus transport. Just might have to sit on it for a bit. and find time to get over and pick it up...

oh man, BC Ferries is a major point of controversy in the province. It's about 90 minutes each way. it's been years since i walked on, but i think its about $15-18 each way.

There are 2 major routes from the mainland to Vancouver Island, and another fairly major one between 2 parts of the mainland. Those all make a pretty decent profit. Then there a like 15 other little routes, they all lose money. So they keep jacking up the prices for the big routes to subsidize the little ones. It all used to be a "crown corporation" in other words a business owned by the government, it wasn't meant to make money, just provide the service and not run at massive losses. Now it's privatized and things have gone to hell. Anyway, yeah, its a major pain

Could just be dirty or have dirty contacts somewhere, could be a ribbon cable coming loose, could be more serious. Most of the 'broken' electronics that I get dont work right because the pots or something else is just really dirty. I'd offer a hundred and see what they say.

Great band practice tonight, got a new intro instrumental tune, tightened up another one. It's sounding really shaging killer.
