Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Another solid practice tonight. Mini muff sounded killer. That puts the capper on twelve solid days of work in a row. I'm exhausted.
Gig tomorrow night. Four piece lineup. We should go on around 10.

It would be really cool if Dave Green designed a 415. I'd throw serious coin at sub 120lb 1600w 415.

Valley ended our holiday hiatus(finally) last Wednesday. Both lead guitarist and myself came to practice with riffs, which turned into two tunes close to 70% completely hashed out. It was also my first opportunity to use my dually by itself in the group. I felt like I was pushing it to its limits with it being *almost* loud enough. With flange engaged, I was clipping the power amp a bit but there was no speaker fart so I guess I'm still within the drivers limits for short spans. Standing up it seemed a little quiet unless fully cranked, but when I brought my head down to driver level it was certainly loud enough and at one point my drummer told me all he could hear was bass.
My drummer commented that it looked a little cheap for being a custom cab. Not that it looked bad he was just expecting more flash I guess. I lauded function over form. All band members where surprised and somewhat skeptical of how shallow the cab was. I just told them that is what you get with a well designed, efficient cab; small footprint.
@Corey Y How did you like the sound of both drivers when you had two duallies? Would you have gone all one way if you were to relive that or did they blend nicely?
My thoughts are to have my faital loaded cab miced live and a 3015 loaded cab on top closer to ear level thinking that mid bump would cut enough for me to hear with less power.

I might be reading too far into this, but this suggest a room placement issue to me
Like your standing in a null and your drummer is seated in a peak.
How big is the practice space, and where it's everyone's fear located?
Do you really have the Dually layed on it's side?
Why do I have to be broke when there's cool stuff to buy?

Dually is vertical and pointed at him 12-15 feet away. He is definitely at a peak. We practice in a storage unit so the room is less than desirable and I stand about 18 inches from the cab. I'm almost 6'3".

Haha yeah, I meant one full range box. Two duallies is sweet but two quads is sweeter.
Yeah that makes sense. A narrow and long room will do it to you every time.
I practiced in a room like that before. The only thing that "worked" was all cabs at one end. All guitars at the other, drums in the middle. It was so damn cramped headstocks bumping mothershagers in the face. Better sound, completely unworkable to jam. The pedalboards made like a tiny hedge from one wall to the other. Little glowing lights everywhere.
We all gave up hearing anything and suffered through it a couple more weeks till we could find someplace new.
Goddamn I hate practice spaces.
I used both a few times and they mixed well. I kept the Faitals one, but would be happy with either. They weren't drastically different sounding enough to really need one of each together. I usually ended up pairing one with my 810, since that offered a lot of variety.
Ha! Good ol' Spancky's. I'm gonna be playing there next month.
Hope the weather stays nice and cold cause that place has 0 airflow and packs out quick! It was easily over 100° inside last time I played there (but that was admittedly in the summer).
If I could squeeze another 12" of stage space I'd love to run two duallies and an 810. For the sake of pure volume I guess I could lay an 810 on its side and stack two duallies on top.

It's a good spot. Max capacity 133 would be a tight fit. Setup was a little weird that only the kick and vocals had a mic. So we turned up our amps a weeee bit more than normal.
Only sold 2 shirts.
Had practice today. It seems that now the guitarist will be the main singer as he's going to sing (more like shout, but yeah) in the new song and that will make his 2 against one of mine. I'm way more into clean singing, he's more into shouting, a bit like the guy from Conan, but with lots of delay and reverb. Oh well, at least I'll get my psych/drone bass part at last.
Also: that Whetstone phaser he got, awesome pedal. Huge, too.
AND, I'll probably ditch fuzz. I'm using it only in the ending of one song and DSOM can easily do it.

Always wondered how they broken rice was made, if you didn't buy it. Easy process, and it's fun to punch and squeeze the rice apart once ready.
Probably order a bassballs soon as I see a good deal on reverb. People want like full price for a used nano, Russian ones just as cheap at that point, but I want the smaller box.
Got a Pharaoh Supreme coming my way. Gonna be nice to get it back on the board. Hoping that this will be "the" fuzz for me, as the standard Pharaoh was so close. This should fix that, though!

I had a Nano Bass Balls and got it dirt cheap, you just gotta hunt around. Look on Guitar Center's used site, Reverb, MusicGoRound, the usuals.
