Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Hunting for a piece of kit that would allow a cymbal on my 16" bass drum via the third leg lug was going nowhere. Other ideas were $$ for little metal bits.

Free to me unknown hardware remnant solves it and my mini kits one step away from completion (floor tom legs on big tom) aside from maybe a refinish.

I know I send a lot of praise to Big Game pedals despite them not really being available outside the used market, but I am VERY excited for his new release that should hopefully be seeing the light of day soon. Its called the Headhunter and is based off of a Roland BeeBaa fuzz. I have a LWA extreme octave, also a Beebaa fuzz, and it is just gnarly. This thing looks WAY cooler with independent clean and fuzz controls and an independent clean output. His two other pedals are both very reasonably priced for a handmade box at $135 new and I suspect this will follow suit.

Not totally in love with the treble mod I did to the ODB-3. I think I killed some of the intensity of the ODB-3. I might change back or go half-way back to stock. I thought maybe I effed it up but no noise issues or anything just tamer in the highs and high mids it seems. Less noisy than stock but then you lose that famous bite it has. Just a heads up if you got for this swap I highlighted below.

the Wampler changes are:

Change C10 from .033uf to 1uf or 2.2uf
Change R31 from 3.3K to 1K
Change C8 from 300pf to .001uf
Change D2 & D3 from LED to 1N4148
Change C2 from .1uf to .001uf

I always wanted to try a BeeBaa fuzz. I think the BAT Black Sheep is loosely based on the BeeBaa fuzz curcuit.

Yeah, I did the Allums mod kit to mine and it sounded great right up until I swapped a certain cap. Kept going with the changes thinking it would even out, but I ended up with a pedal that really sounds nothing like the ODB3. It sounds good, but it's too far from the original. I've been wanting to get a stock one again for a while, just waiting for a killer deal to fall into my lap.

Yeah, my first ODB-3 had all the tone mods but none of the clipping mods done and it sounded really good to me, but of course I sold it. But now that I had a stock unit for a while I think I may like it stock the best. I will probably add a new .033uf back.
Anyone know the trick to holding the circuit board tight while desoldering and removing the old caps and resistors? That was the worst part of the job. I was afraid to scratch the circuit boards with my helping hands tool and that wasn't heavy enough anyway?

I think the only couple guys with EGCs have been absent for many moons. Not sure if anyone else has hands on time.


Man, St. Louis had the shows tonight. At the bigger venue, Corrosion of Conformity, Clutch and Lamb of God played. At another venue, Valley opened for Birishi, Today is the Day, Author & Punisher and Weedeater. Buncha people from the other show came to the small venue after Clutch. Weedeater is about to lay waste. Pumped.

Odb-3 sounds interesting in regards to highs and mids.

Currently my fabtones best thing I got going. What I want though is a dirt pedal that basically doesnt retain low end I guess or can but doesn't always. I want the gritty angry highs and mids to give me a picked aggressive sound with my flats and fingers.

Fabtones great at this, but soooo much gain and feedback, can get a bit undefined at times.

Joyo UD I remember sounded good, but I had stainless rounds when I had it. My dod 250 clones nice but just not that dirty it seems.
