Saw some killer bands last night, all three used Rics, all 3 had awesome tone. Rics seem to have some kind of filtery warble when down tuned that I haven't heard in other basses.

Those Eastmans look sweet. I wonder if they are simple passive JJs or if they have that weird alembic-esque filter system that the Gibsons have.

RDs, Tbirds, explorers and Vs are my favorite body shapes. It's a shame I don't much care for Gibson aside from that. I'd rock an Epi t bird in a heartbeat though.

You could probably do the same with an all-maple T-bird with pickups in the same positions.

Totally. Something I just don't understand about guitarists from a bassist's perspective: we understand that a P bass is a P bass is a P bass. Sure feel and build quality differ but that pickup in that specific location always sounds like a P. Guitarists will swear on their life though that two all mahogany/ebony board, set neck of equal scale guitars with humbuckers in the same location will sound different because of the body shape. Shenanigans.

One of my guitarists has a 59 reissue black/gold LP custom and the other an Agile LP. They sound the ****ing same and both play great with a $3k price difference. Despite that, #2 will use the drummers LP custom for shows. *yawn*

I could see it maybe having an effect in an extreme case, like maybe a Flying V, which has very little wood around the neck pickup, so it might affect the sound of that pickup. But that's the only case I could think of really. And it might, solo'd, sound *slightly* different from a Les Paul.

Just take the tone knob out entirely.

I don't think that would be a great idea. Rolling back the tone is the only thing taming the Greco, that thing is an absolute monster. Never imagined a pickup could sound like that.

Catching up after spending all day in the car yesterday. Peavey VB3 uses a torroidal transformer. Also a switch mode power supply.

The guy with the CL400 is definitely interested in a f2f purchase. Mentioning the savings he would see from no fees is a fairly attractive offer. Working on setting up a time to go play/buy it.


On that note. I was talking to Julian regarding running two 4 ohm cabs out of an amp with an 8 and 4 ohm output and he mentioned a series box or cable. IIRC @D.M.N. built one of these contraptions. Is it really as easy as it looks? I read about making sure to use a non-conductive box for the enclosure or isolating the jacks. I saw someone's homebrew using a plastic enclosure. My question is this, if any of you know: Do I need to use special jacks or a wire of a specific gauge within the enclosure to handle that much power? I'm cool with using a plastic box, but something more substantial would be cool. Any tips/ideas on how to isolate the jacks? And I am sure that I will need to verify that both cabs are wired identically(they should be) before hooking them up to the box.




Update: Made phone contact with the guy. I am super ****ing pumped about this. The guy apparently played in a successful Skynard cover band for years and owned a custom bass business for almost a decade. He apparently has just over 100 basses, most of which are on display in his studio. School girl candy shop giddy I am.

If it was me, I would use speakon jacks for the cab connection, just so you ever make a mistake.

My second dually has combo speakon-1/4 jacks.

If you want a Rickenbacker, I'd recommend an S model. They're slightly cheaper.

As for lack of firepower... I guess my band just isn't that loud. I've never run into a situation where I wasn't loud enough playing doom. Then again, the 2000S is a loud cab, especially with Faitals that I don't have to worry about blowing up.

Yeah, the S models without binding are the way to go.

And also yes, the 2000s is a very loud and efficient cab design. I don't know how Conrad did it all those years ago, but his dream is still one of the best cabs out there I think. I used the 2000s rig last night for a cover band show in a bar, I don't think I ever took the volume above 4, and it was definitely loud enough (we actually ended up turning down a bit, the room can be very boomy).

I dig the binding. If I did ever get a Ric it would be a 4001/3. But it is far from a priority. Any +$1K guitar that I'd consider would likely be a MM sabre.

What are your settings in the Rails pedal? I use mine mostly for a dirty treble boost. On its own the current settings are a subtle grind, but feed that into my other dirt and it's a noticeable difference.

Here's my settings. Later on in the night I did engage the high-cut (less setting) after we listened to a track and I heard a bit too much clank.

I'm still on the fence about that Fernandes P I mentioned some time ago, but I got paid recently and, well, it's still available and it really does tempt.

The bass looks cool, but I don't like the way that pick guard is cut.
