Vintage Sunns were 6550s, too, though, IIRC.
Sounds like 6550 would be more to my taste, though.
OK, there is no Sovtek in my shop. However I can have a pretty good price on Electro-Harmonics/Russia stuff. Anyone using that brand ?
I think that electro harmonix tubes are made by sovtek from what ive heard. If the deal is good go for it id say.
Anybody have any experience with Pigtronix Envelope Phasers? This one has some pretty cool sounds around 1:40 in the video. Really deep throaty wet burp sounds are kind of what I'm looking for. Can the EP2 get this kind of sound? It's kind of that simple is nice... but more knobs is probably better. haha

I'm a pick player and I pretty much never palm mute. Part of the reason is that I really like playing pretty close to/sometimes even over the neck. I like the sound there.
I did palm mute for one song on the last album...the guitars were sparse and dialed back during the verses and I wanted that sort of dead, muted thump. I thought about getting an actual mute or some foam but it's just for the verses, not the whole song.

I switch between pick and finger playing. We have a part in one of the songs thats kind of a tribal rhythm and i play that part partially palm muted. Just to kind of add to the kick drums thwump and make it sound more mechanical due to all the gain i run. Kind of sounds like a car wreck in slow motion.

made by Sovtek, i would go for it. I have used them in my '79 SVT with no issues.
I don't know a goddamned thing about curling, the rules or how to play but goddamn if'n it's not the best sport I've ever watched in my life. How many other sports' primary gear is a broom? NONE!
I feel it's important to say I'm not into Harry Pooter. However, at the insistence of grown adults like me, I read a couple of the books (and saw some of the movies) and teh single worst thing about every Pooter product i saw was Quidditch. It's arduous to read about and entirely superfluous in the films. The fact that it exists as an idea trolls me.
So no, that doesn't count. Curling uber alles.
I like the movies, never read the books. But apparently it's pretty serious out there. haha

I mean it's not like it's the end of the world, my bandmates are my best friends since like end of high school, so it's just a readjustment of hobbies for us. Painful, but still. I'm staying in music, they are a bit out. Not totally, since we've had some music talk while playing board games tonight, so it's not out of the table, but it's pretty unlikely we'll play in the nearest future.

I wanted to borrow my guitarist's pedalboard as he has some cool stuff there (Blackout Effectors Whetstone Phaser, Moog Trem, Boss RE20, some guitar dirt I'm not exactly familiar with) and he doesn't use it nowadays and it just lies in his car.
I take it and boom, his car gets stolen like 30 minutes later. Jeez.
back at work today, somebody stole 5 more of the cheapo video projectors over the holiday
got the ebony minwax stain for the steer skull today, krylon kumar varnish, e6000 glue, and some cheapo foam brushes
(the skull came with a creepy beetle from new mexico, not sure if it was flesheating)
i must admit that the ebony stain would look pretty tight on a natural warmoth body
not feeling very doomy, because all the songs i am working on sound like duran duran or wham

I've been face first in Pinewood Derby cars with my kids for the last week or so. Watching a nine year old weakling try to use a coping saw is just maddening, and then the terror of putting spray paint cans in their hands...
My 3Leaf Proton arrived recently. Can't say what my final thoughts are yet, but it's good. Wetter than my MXR BEF, but each has some qualities I like. I wish the Proton had a volume control, but I think it'll be okay. Have yet to try it in the mix.
Also, any recommendations for a cheap octaver? Have and love my Octoplus, but looking at other options. How is the Behringer UO300? I know that brand is very divisive amongst some, so thought I'd ask the collective.
I dont know about the proton but the groove regulator i had, had an internal volume trim. They may have removed it.
i'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to regulate the groove or limit the funk

Sunns used KT88s until mid '69 when they switched to US sourced 6550s as the UK KT88s were becoming harder to source.
With regards to 6550s, my choice there is the Tung-Sols. They're great, have a set of the reissues in one of my 2000s, and they sound very similar to the vintage US pair in another 2000s. I've also been wanting to try some Gold Lion KT88s in my Sunns, I like the idea of even more hi-fi especially since my new amp for Treble/distortion is....
A Marshall JTM45/100. Arrived a week or so ago. Picked it up off ebay for around the current going prices of 1000s series Sunns, and it showed up with all the documentation, AND a seriously heavy duty ATA case. It's one of the 2005 40th Anniversary run, which is modeled of The Who's original Marshall Super 100s. It has 2 50w output transformers, and is really only about 80w. But damn, it sounds SWEET when pushed into early OD. There is a hell of a lot of bass on tap on the amp, I'm running it similar to my Sunns, Bass on about 2, Mids, Treble, and Presence cranked. It is definitely the sound of 60s bass cranked; Entwistle, Bruce, Ron Wood, Noel Redding. When I first tried it last week, I blew the HT fuse and it turned out one of the KT66s had cooked. Just got the new one tonight, and biased the head up. First time doing that, finally getting some use out of the Weber Biasrite I bought. Damn, these things have some serious plate voltage (530v). Also means I never have to take an amp to a tech again to replace tubes, that shizz is so easy.
In other news I'm going down to L.A. tomorrow for the weekend, that's about all the news out of my court...
