Maybe simply changing the tube brand would make the head more reliable so.
Damn...and the Tung Sol are super expensive too, which with the recommendation of the tech made me think that would the mark of some "high level craftsmanship" you know...
What tubes brand/model would you recommend so, gentlemen ?

I think it was Nick at Dunwhich that said, you will see a much larger difference in tube type, than tube brand. They are only coming from a small number of factories anyways. Go with something easily available, so if you have to replace a single tube, it will be easy to find one that fits with your set.

I thought all modern SVTs were all 6550s. I run tung sol in my verellen with no issue and ive had the same set in it for more than 3 years. Also i thought kt-90s were roughly the equivalent to the 6550s.

But overall that thing could actually probably do a decent demo. haha. Well... a good enough reference for us to practice at home.

We have one of these connected to the headphone jack on our 8 channel mixer and close mic everything at practice. We actually get really good quality demo from it.

KT88's and 6550's are generally equivalent.

I've been on a pedal buying spree lately. I think I should get a filter. I don't have a phaser, flanger, octave or filter yet. My guitarist uses a lot of phaser in our trippy parts. There isn't a whole lot to work with there, but I want to play too. Haha.
I picked up delay, reverb, trem, wah, and a freeze.
I'll mostly just be experimenting with all this stuff at home for now, until I get a grasp on it. I've been just strictly a dirt pedal guy.

So, I could not get along well with the catalinbread sft (my playing is too sloppy for a pedal that is SO dynamic) I decided it was time for another fuzz. a Buddy of mine built me a clone of the Team awesome fuzz machine, he sent some demo Videos and a Picture, I liked what I saw and heard! will be here in about a week or two! yes. really exited! And I really want an H/H head now :-D

Well, the band is pretty much dead.
After six months of hiatus the drummer told us that right now he prefers curling (that weird sport involving pushing huge stones through ice) over drumming and that's what he's going to do in his spare time from now on. Guitarist is now depressed and thinks of selling his pedalboard which will probably go to me in most part.
After buying the guitar and a guitar amp and coming up with some riffs I remembered that I actually used to do music on my own on my computer for years before all that band business.
So yeah. Home recording and hoping for a new band.

Make sure to swap them all out for 6550s or kt88 not just the one. I would go 6550 just because thats what your amp was designed for. Make sure to rebias because they for sure will bias differently than kt 120s.

6550's break up earlier, and:

They break up sooner in the mids, so they sound less even than the KT88's at the same volume.

What Cl400 and Sam said apparently. Ive never used kt88s. Ive stuck with 6550s and been very happy with my tone.

what CL said. the KT-88 is more "hi-fi". Think vintage SVT (6650) vs a vintage Sunn or Matamp (KT88). There is more mid content in the 6550, sounds a bit more angry, the KT88s sound like they are in control of the amp and it doesn't get as filthy.
