Well the M-Pulse crushes. I had some tones loaded up on a Source Audio Aftershock ie "darkglass". That definitely needs more tweaking. I'll be running all my dirt pedals through the Mesa this week. Then seeing what works at practice next Sunday.

Show went well. Played with Treeherder, and Worship, whose album Corey apparently recorded.
had a stupid loud practice yesterday. guitarist went back to using a '72 Marshall Superlead. he's been usinga Butcher for the past 8 years but decided to go back to his old amp. the Marshall sounds great but the taper on the volume controls isn't great. goes from quiet to deafening very quickly.
So my belated xmas present to myself was this strap from Couch:

For the past four years of playing seriously again, I've just been using a cheap-o Dunlop nylon strap. Holy hell, I forgot how much difference a good strap makes. It's not even an extra wide one. Totally cures the neck dive on my Guild JS-2 shortscale. Plus my shoulder isn't sore after a couple hours of playing. It wasn't cheap, but I'm impressed with the workmanship and detail on this one. Plus it looks awesome and it's vegan.

Hard to beat if it sounds good. I'm kind of the volume benchmark in the practice space... Lately have been pushing the V4 a little to get that nice warm amp OD. Point the cab at the wall across from the rig keeps the 410 from turning into a death beam.
a plexi has to be loud not to make a les Paul Sound like an acoustic guitar... even if it's a 45w jmp or stuff like that...
sold the catalinbread sft, just could'n get it to Sound right. went back to my good ol' ultimate drive, will mod it with an easy wet/dry blend to retain a bit more lowend

Not that familiar with plexis. Are they non-master volume amps?
None of my pedals have wet/dry blends.

Probably why most of the guitarists I play with haven't used them. I'm actually the only one in Catapult who uses a fuzz pedal (custom Dunwich). That's just for extra heavy parts, though.
Funny you posted this - I swear my jazz bass is getting heavier every time I pick it up and after practice last night my shoulder was killing me.
My "to do" list for today includes shopping for a new strap...now I know where to start looking, thanks!
Full disclosure, my Guild is not heavy compared to a Jazz. It was just the flimsy nylon digging into my shoulder at an odd angle. To alleviate the weight with a heavier bass, you definitely want to either go wide or go thick (true in oh-so-many facets of life). It may be vain, but I just can't stand the look of a wide strap. Not all the straps Couch offers would seem to have the thickness to really lighten up the load of a heavy bass (as cool as some of them look, I'd be wary of their hippie weave series and I would stay away from the seatbelt straps entirely). Many of the ones in their deadstock luggage and vintage auto vinyl series though look to have the requisite heft to do the job. It's not easy finding high-quality vegan straps.
That's how I do it with fuzz pedals, too.
And the overdrive channel of my guitar amp.
Honestly it always confused me when people try to set overdrive sound to be the same volume as clean.... IMO clean is supposed to be quieter.
With my basses, on the Rickenbackers, my "clean" tone is just switching to the lower output neck pickup. On the T-bird, it's switching into parallel mode (instead of series). On the peavey, it's just turning down the volume knob on the bass.
I want to record a demo of my Dunwich pedal, but my cell phone is my only camera and I'm not sure that the audio quality would be good enough for it to be worth it.

Longtime stalking this thread, first time posting and it is to use your knowledge and advice.
I am the owner of a nice Ampeg SVT CL x Matamp 610 stack. I really do love the sound I get from it. Only problem : despite being very careful with the amp, I play it quite a lot and it has gone to the tech 2 times in two years. Each time involving a poweramp tube change. The CL is once again giving me trouble lately, again.
These regular visits to the tech are really annoying me know (and my wallet). So I have been thinking about keeping it for the "BIG"gigs and recordings sessions, and buy another less powerful/high-end but more reliable amp for the rehearsal and "small"gigs.
What are your suggestions ?
(Tubes aren't mandatory as long as the tone is right and I need an amp that can be powerful enough for competing with my butcher drummer and my deaf-guitarist)
