Well drummer and vocalist audition #1 - meh. I have another drummer to try out though.

The BCR nj eagle bass I got on eBay sounded great but the neck was warped to hell and the truss rod was stripped. Guy agreed to give me the refund so hoping that happens.
Progress on the pedalboard. Got a few more I still need to get ahold of, but the plan is slowly moving forward. The only problem is a lack of money, as usual lol. And cable management i guess. Theres alot of cables involved in this thing.
Are there issues with short scale basses and low tuning? I really dig the Gibson tone on both bass and guitar (really going out on a limb there) but wonder if the SG reissue will hold C standard tuning.
In other news, I was trying Evidence audio SIS plugs, because lava cables can be such a pain to deal with as a customer. The screw in solder-less sucks. I so much prefer soldered plugs. Why is lava the only company making mini soldered cable ends. I already pulled them apart to return to order more soldered plugs even though I wanted to get away from Lava as their customer service is the worst in any industry I've ever tried to deal with. I'm sure the SIS stuff works better on the evidence cable to be fair, but just the whole solder-less process feels so much worse to me. How do people trust solder-less patch cables. I put together a soldered cable and I know that ***** going to work. I just don't feel secure with non-soldered ends.

Yes and no. If you go with naturally high tension strings, ie half round, ground wounds or flat wounds, you can. Larger gauge will help as well. In my experience, flatwounds of the same gauge as the rounds you use on a 34" will get you in the same ballpark on a short scale.
I'm planning on trying a set of the Cobalt flats here soon. I could give you a decent comparison vs hybrid slinkies.
In all fairness its probably not that bad on their cable. I had a whole bunch of ultramafic lava cable sitting around that i was hoping i could finish it off with evidence ends due to the spec being so close between the two cables, other than the solid core on the evidence cable. And you can make it work with the ultramafic, but it was such a pain compared to soldered ends. Also the soldered ends just feel much more secure to me. Ill never understand why solderless stuff is so prevalent on pedalboards. Soldered connections just give me alot more peace of mind. Mostly im just venting.
good luck man. the flatwound advice was sound but no way could I pull off C on a short scale. I dig in too much, or perhaps my technique sucks, either way I like pretty normal string tension and I cant get it on a short stack tuned down. I play a 130 on a 35" scale ad it still doesn't give me the same tensions as 105 tuned to E on a 34" scale. You should check string charts for whatever manufacturer you use and compare your tuning on a short scale to standard on a standard and you'll get some idea. Or if you're determined to try it you can play with this string calculator to figure out what strings you might need for your tuning.

You're probably right about drop C or std C, I've never down tuned that low. Drop d and std d worked okay for me, a bit floppier that 34" but it worked. Granted I was only using a .110 set. Also despite playing real hard as well, I prefer lower tension for string bends.

If I get out at a decent time today, I'm gonna pick up a set of those flats and see how it is in d and c.
Well, I got an audition thinger for a trash/prog project this coming weekend, here's hoping I don't bring the suck. I've started working through some of the tab and its not that tough but the bpm might be the issue for me. We shall see..

I stopped at Huber Breese on Monday, but they didn't have the Cobalt flats... their string selection for bass kinda sucks. I'm gonna see if another local shop has em before I have to go to GC to get em.

4 6550s does not mean 200 watts. it depends on the transformers and other design considerations
