Though Palms is more like ISIS, I actually prefer Sumac. I listen both though.
I caught Mike Gallagher's Mustard Gas and Roses a few months back at a truly awful suburban strip mall dive bar with The Atlas Moth. Despite the terrible venue, the show was rad! My favorite non-ISIS project of those dudes is Red Sparowes (RIP).
Mammifer is the project that is the most fringe for me. I once saw them once w/ Brian Cook on bass. It was cool and I'm happy I went, though it was definitely a show I went to because of the musicians pedigree over personal taste.
I thought the palms record was basically an isis album with a different singer. It got me to give the deftones an honest chance - they have some great songs in their later years,
Sounds and looks pretty slick. Any video that has Legos in it is good in my book.
Thanks for the vids, I feel ya on the sound. What's sad in my experience, is that I've ran into the same problem a lot lately in all kinds of genres and venues...not sure if I've just seen too many sub par sound guys or if the teachings now a days is to put out those woofy lows...
Saw a bunch of great bands last Saturday nite. If y’all haven’t heard/seen Great Electric Quest they are cool.

Killer man, they just played Lafayette, LA 2 weeks ago. Our buddies in Shadow Giant opened up and said GEQ were fantastic.

If anyone is looking for a killer bass to tune down, see the for sale thread in my signature. I have a basically brand new Jericho Alpha Black 4 string (35" scale), so it is awesome for tuning down from drop D to BEAD and beyond. I made some unplanned pricey purchases and need to purge some stuff to keep the credit card in check.
I know your dilemma. Ive been there. I've been really interested in these basses. They certainly are priced right and I am a huge fan of 35" scale 4 strings. How would you describe the build quality and finish? how about the neck: is it more Precision-like in dimensions or more like a Jazz neck. Is the profile pretty slim, large radius? I mean the spec list is sweet. A style bridge, nice tuners, ash, carbon truss rods? dont know anything about stew mac pickups, but it almost seems impossible to sell for $800 bucks with the features. If they had just based it off the P instead of the Jazz Id be all in on this.
Ive played an older one. Not the easiest to handle. not balanced great and hard to sit with. The neck on the earlier ones was a weird scale, definitely shorter than normal. I want to say it was 30 or even 32, which is no bueno for me as I like to down tune and keep some string tension. The newer ones look like they are full scale 34" . Im not a fan of how t-bird style pickups sound, personally. I think the newer silverbusrt ones from a couple years ago, look really awesome though. Haven't seen one in for sale in awhile.

The build quality is really nice. My repair guy even commented on it and that the fretwork was actually well done (lord knows they see enough where you can't really set a bass up right without doing some fretwork). The neck is very jazz like, very similar to my Sadowsky. It is narrow. The back is a nice C shape, not chunky but not flattened out either. It is a fast neck for sure. The finish looks great in person too. The Stew Mac pickups lean on the traditional Fender side I would say. That being said, the bass is bright and full of attack, so the bass doesn't sound vintage. The P pickup sounds great. The J is not hum-cancelling, so that is one thing I'd consider changing out. I have a pair of Nordstrands for it, but I just need to move it on out and figure better to do so seperately Considering finding a 35" 4 string "Fender style" bass is next to impossible mixed with the quality and components for the price, I'm very impressed. I'm just so hooked on my Dingwall Dbird and Spector in my metal band. Meanwhile, I could probably use a BEAD bass in my country cover band, but I think this bass is better suited to rock and metal. Putting flats on it feels like putting regular unleaded gas in a sports car. Like I said has a lot of attack with the ash/maple combo. The country gig is an alder/rw with flats kind of sound.

I had an Aria Explorer bass. It was a medium scale, so it did not have any issues with reach. Not sure about the Gibson. The body definitely lends itself to reach. One thing that bothered me (at least on the Aria but I assume it is an Explorer body thing) was the way the bass kind of titled forward a little bit.
Phaser made it safe and sound. Cant wait to get to try this out. The most switchinest pedal i ever did own.

Tho, honestly i'd be worried about missing one of the stomp switches and smashing some of the smaller switches. Really curious how it sounds.
Yeah luckily i use a Gigrig so i wont have my stupid big feet up there near it too much hopefully.

Looks intimidating. Lol. Though I'm used to my old Small stone - one switch, one knob.
I got the model J's in my Jazz. Didn't install the push/pull pot yet though. Not even sure if I want to. Bass sounds righteous! Exactly what I wanted - more output, more mids, more thickness. Its less trebly and less articulate than the standard single coils. Its more p-bassish in sound. $ super well spent.
And just in time, going out to the practice room tomorrow that I'm renting with a guitarist - we're jamming with a drummer and a vocalist. Fingers crossed, hoping to finally get a band together. WHOOHOO!

I don't understand how people operate Chase Bliss' stomps with two in a 1590 box and a toggle between them.
Me either, the aby I use has around 4 inches between them and I'd get close to popping em both if I wasn't paying attention. That's one thing that's been making me hesitate on a loop for my board.
@br1qbat congrats on the band! I can't remember, were you gonna wire it series/parallel? If so I'd still recommend it even with the model J's. Granted I don't have a P bass anymore to A/B, but in series it sounds just like one with a little more articulation and retaining some of that single coil snap. Really thickens it up.

I’m going to check it out (CL sale). IMO the best bass I’ve ever played is a t-bird so if it sounds anything like that I might bond with it.
I bought the push/pull pot but didn't have time to wire that in. So its currently standard parallel J bass wiring. Thx for the congrats too. Fingers crossed!
