Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Ok all you tech people, I have a 4 string Fender Marcus Miller. I want to put a three band Darkglass pre in it with volume and blend. Is there a pot I can get for passive pickups that’s stacked with a normal volume on the bottom and a center detention on top for the pickup blend? Is this even possible? I don’t want to put more holes in the bass than the 4 stock ones. Oh, and I still want to have the active/passive switch work. I’m replacing the pickups with some type of hum cancelling jazz bass pickups. Haven’t decided yet. Probably Duncan Apollo set.

I don't know about the indents, but stacked knobs are out there for multiple purpose. You should consider wiring it like my Sandberg Grand Dark. It seems logical to me and maybe the easiest scheme. It also has the Darkglass preamp. It's setup as follows, going from top down; First knob is volume with push pull passive/active. Second knob is blend. Third is mid. Last knob is stacked treble and bass.

This dude kind of explains it at 2:50 seconds.

I don't have any first-hand experience, but I was curious and found this: Noll 500k/220k stacked volume/blend pot

Two words: practice room. We split the cost. And on a non.practice night, I can drive over at night [after the kids are asleep!] if i want and blast the piss out of the amps
No, they can’t ever practice consistently. So we’d just be wasting money on a room. We tried about 9 months ago to get back together, and we made it work twice in about 5 months of “weekly practice”. And nearly every time was a “last minute” event that necessitated the cancel. The band just didn’t seem to be the priority anymore. No judgment, just sad for me.

I have a practice space in my house, too, so that’s not an issue. It’s just the reality of having the time to do this stuff. I’ve found that I NEED the volume for my “therapy”. Headphones work for quiet practice, but the feeling just ain’t there. Just something about feeling a sustained, fuzzed out bass note reverberate through my body that headphones can’t do. It’s cathartic.

Maybe get one of those pads you stand on that vibrates?

Thats a mood right there... I'm getting ready to start looking for a practice space for that very reason.

It’s awesome until you have to move it all...

I used to play through 4 15s and 6 10s. 15s were clean, 10s were dirty. I had a morley aby switch running to a 1000 watt pre/power setup clean, and a 1970s peavey standard dimed for dirt.

I’m currently waiting on a buddy of mine to finish trying to repair the 260 Peavey I bought. Got one in a trade once and flipped but want another one. Cool head for sure.

Cranking the records or fuzz...or both is like a huge therapy session. Feels good not just sounds good.

I think I'm gonna go watch super troopers.

I've been thinking about splurging on a set of the Apollos. If you go that route let me know what ya think.

Been meaning to re-watch that, as well as the sequel. Recently re-watched Beerfest as that’s my yearly “Oktoberfest” tradition. One day, I’ll get to “The Slammin’ Salmon”. Thus far, I rather enjoy each Broken Lizard movie I’ve seen.
