That was my very first pedal ever when I starting playing guitar when I was 13 (back in 1983)! I had all but forgotten about that thing! I used it for about 2 months and then bought a brand new (then) HM-2. I used that HM-2 for 20+ years until it disappeared from my pedalboard at a show.
I honestly have no recollection of what happened to that Little Big Muff though.... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I'm guessing that's a reference to the Melvins drummer's ex-wife but I don't know the story.
Totally agree I've had to compromise a bit. What I am surprised about is that when I do biamp, my little 15w vox sounds huge and articulate, though probably because the lows are cut and I put it on top of my bass rig.
I've yet to try a blend pedal like the boss with dirt, but almost any dirt pedal with blend just doesn't get all the way there. I imagine it might be better, but still not quite there. Good enough for live play though.
I wonder if it's the mix of harmonics and voicing differences between two amps that do it.
Bummer on not accounts! I'm curious to try it. From the little info I've found, the filter section is fairly unique from any other muff. The lpf option creates a mid bump like a tone knob on a bass does, wondering if that will help in the mix.
That and I'm a sucker for simple pedals, 1 knob and a switch checks all my boxes and it's a rad looking box in a spartanesque kinda way
I remember when I first got the HM-2 and compared it and the LBM side by side that I thought that the HM-2 sounded "less full" but, at that age, something that said "Heavy Metal" on it was better than something that said "Little Big Muff", lol
Well I wouldn't reference her as 'only' the ex-wife of Dale Crover, seeing as she's a giant [in my eyes, at least] in stoner/doom being the creative mind behind Acid King. But yeah, shes used a les paul into a little big muff into a JCM800 stack her whole career. That pedal is part of the secret sauce of the AK tone.
I notice my GK, when put into biamp mode, there's way more punch. Probably due to a narrower band of frequencies being all the cab has to worry about. Dunno for sure, but thats my best guess.
It's a hell of an experience. Truly a wall of sound. Oddest thing about it for me was how much easier it was to fit in any mix. Me and the guitarist spent zero time or thought on adjusting our mix.
Maybe we were lucky, maybe not, but it worked the first time for sure. I tended to use the octave up only into the vox. But when sending the full signal to both it still was great.
I've though about getting a bigger amp for dirt, but the one I got seems to be loud enough with the lows cut out. I think a lot had to do with it being much higher up, but I never had to use all the volume it has.

Oh a side note, i think a lot of it has to do with using the dirt almost exclusively through the dirty amp that made staying in the mix easier.
bass big muff was my primary/only bass dirt for a number of years. depending on the mode switch one of the knobs works as a clean blend
I'm now using a fuzz loosely based off the axis fuzz (also has a clean blend)

I would just use EQ on each amp for the most part. Totally, or close to it cut the lows on the guitar amp were most of what I did. The bass amp I wouldn't change much at all.

Which fuzz? I have an axis that I love but it’s not good for pedalboard space :/
no output pot. instead it's a blend pot between the fuzz output and a slight clean boost (the one on my personal board is just an op amp stage, whereas version 2 prototype is a bjt transistor). this goes into the hm2 tone stack because besides chainsaw it's quite useful
