Sounds pretty decent to me, considering what these go for. I’ve heard far worse, far more expensive tones.

And I guarantee I'm not getting the ideal tone from it, or using it to its full capabilities.

Thanks! Glad you liked it. I've lurked in this thread for years but I don't post all that much. I'll tell you though I've noticed a lot of you guys are around my age (38) and its shagging hard as you get older to keep a band going when people start having health issues, careers, and kids. It's hard to make practice, its hard to practice on your own, its hard to even schedule shows sometimes. We wrote those songs in 2014 and 2015 and recorded them in 2017 but we didn't like the recordings and weren't able to re-record them until mid 2019 before my big surgery and then took awhile to mix/master because we did that ourselves. I will say though that we made a bunch of small tweaks over the years to the songs that I think really helped bring them to life and if we recorded them earlier they wouldn't be as good. I'm really proud that we were able to stay together through everything and finally put these out.

We do actually have a couple WIP songs that just aren't ready and I hope we can practice enough to play them out and record them in the next year or 2. Right now we aren't practicing because the other two guys have kids and everyone is worried about coronavirus. My drummer is working from home and my guitarist's work is closed until this is over but I work in healthcare so we never close. I hope everyone and there loved ones stays safe and healthy.

Things have been slowly picking up their pace. Good to hear it's not crazy to think it'll be possible to get it together.

A sneak peek, this iteration is almost done. As you can see, I need to fix a few cables. I unfortunately don't have what's needed for output yet. Some MIDI stuff needed too. Some pedals that I would like to introduce or swap in, but nothing critical now that I have dual compressors and a proper tuner. The KMA Horizont phaser in the top left isn't even plugged in because I didn't have anything that long. Funny photo glitch there, was trying an editor that let me adjust perspective and it worked quite well save for its guesses on how to extend the image there.

Yeah, mostly. Compression and EQ is before, cab sim and looper is after. The dirt is in two separate loops, one per NS-2. The "dark" one is the Bad Monkey (Tube screamer clone) running into the GroundFX Burning Sunn (Sunn Model T pre-amp based). It's currently missing a Russian Muff that's awaiting repairs and modification. The "bright" loop is the DOD 250, Dunwich DA-120 (Green Matamp GT-120 based), and Dunwich Volt Thrower (RAT based). The Behringers are new and currently in their own loops so that I can experiment more with ordering and so on. Long term goal is to get a Dunwich DoomFinder (Hyperfuzz + octave) and put it in its own loop so that I can utilise the octaver in it outside the dirt. I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate the HM-2 clone yet, but I should be getting the cables I need today and if I like it enough, I'll probably get the Dunwich Left Hand Path and put it in one of the existing loops.

The rest of the pedals have their own loops. If you leave out the HM-2 clone, I've even got one free that I'm not sure how I'd like to use. I could split up the dirt even more, or I could introduce something new. No clue what, though!

In other news got the jam room more organized and finally hung some of the pictures I'd been meaning to for years...still gotta hang my Sabbath poster and I've been debating between a warp riders, dopesmoker, or sciences poster above the amps and organ.

Just picked up a Joyo Husky Drive for peanuts (tiny OCD clone) and I’m beginning to wonder whether clean blends are for suckers. It’s a VERY trebley pedal, which oddly enough works out great because the tone knob is really useable even at very low settings. I have it at 9 o’clock and it still sounds clear and articulate. It and the Metal Zone are the only dirt pedals really holding my attention right at the moment.

I like some that have blends and some that don't. Lately there's been a lot of ones without blend that I really dig, the dark side fuzz and the looking Glass have been 2. But I definitely have needed a blend in a full mix plenty of times.

Part of getting older but as long as everyone keeps gradually working on it when we can eventually we can release stuff. It's weird because I don't have kids and the other guys do and I'd like to do more music but the thought of driving into the city and spending 2-3 nights a week practicing doesn't really appeal to me anymore at my age I'd rather spend time with my fiancée. Just don't give up and work on it when you can it might take awhile but eventually you'll get it out.

This is not only true, it is beautifully said, too. And "un-screw up" goes into my personal dictionary.

I'm already running per-pickup signals out from the instrument and have the DI pick up after comp and EQ, so I can do that if needed in post. I do seem to lose some very low lows in my signal chain, most likely mostly in the cab sim but I've noticed the HOG2 and Horizont have a tiny bit of bass roll-off as well. It's really just the lowest bottom end and it's hardly a problem, but I have kept my options to blending/crossover just to be safe

Forgot to mention, if you like the model T and haven't tried EQD Acapulco Gold do it if you can.

Already super happy with my GroundFX Burning Sunn! Thanks for the tip though. I've seen it discussed plenty of times when looking into Model T clones and I don't think it really hits the Model T mark, but it does hit a mark. If/when my dad (guitarist) ever switches to tube amps, I think I'll have to build him one. Too many knobs is not his thing and the Acapulco Gold should absolutely be simple enough for him. He somewhat jokingly claims to like doom because it's so slow, though he's mostly thinking of Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath). Which is fair, and he does genuinely enjoy it! But I'd love to get him into some heavier and modern stuff some day. He's one of the largest reasons I'm really into music nowadays and I will need to feature him on some project some day, so he better have the tone for it!

First world problem time - I have 4 guitars, and will set them up for various tunings and scenarios. I want 4 basses, so that I can match tunings etc. and be ready to make a complementary riff on any instrument at a moment’s notice. I need to to purchase a single bass to make this happen. I have two 6 string guitars, and two 7 string guitars. I have a 4, 5, and 6 string bass. Do I get a 4 string, knowing that I have 2 extended range guitars and 2 extended range basses? Do I get a 5 string knowing that I like going nice and low sometimes (relative to the guitar part)? Convince me one way or another. I have time lately, and I figure I can waste some on frivolous stuff. Though I did write an and record a complete song today, even if it’s a bit rough.

No comment there really, I tend to do everything on my 5er. I don't really do 4 string basses other than specific songs that call for a fretted bass/pick/that sound.

On a different topic, I have been starting to play around with A standard tuning, which is been friggen awesome. Not sure if i'll be using it anytime soon, but its super heavy.
