I'd guess a p-bass, ss strings, a pick, and a modern style dirt/amp. In my mind this is a darkglass amp/pedal type tone. Sure theres other ways to get there, but it screams darkglass to me.

I'd guess a p-bass, ss strings, a pick, and a modern style dirt/amp. In my mind this is a darkglass amp/pedal type tone. Sure theres other ways to get there, but it screams darkglass to me.
Def sounds like a jazz and DG. You can get some similar tone with fingers or pick and nickel, ss or flats imo, but given the thrashy-ness it might be pick... BUT with fingers you can get a cool kind of slap effect when you're playing faster stuff.
As others, I have gone through it as well. You just keep plodding on, and that's all there really is to it.
In absolutely non-doom news, I went to see the Solheim Cup finals yesterday in Toledo. Man, those ladies are great players. Sadly, the US got beat by Team Europe, but they had some great matches.
I have owned the HX FX twice. I'm not sure how similar it is to the Stomp, but thought I'd chime in. Though I really dug the sounds, I felt it was really designed to function in scenes, where I like more of a multieffects layout that I can tap on the fly. While I could get into individual scenes, and change "pedals" on the fly, the switches have this super sensitive edit thing that I just couldn't get ever: If you just feather the switch, it goes into effect edit mode. I eventually went back to the M9, which sounds great to my ears for delays, reverbs, some modulation, and some filter effects.
I was thinking of @El_Charro's original post yesterday while I was playing around w/ my Alpha/Omega 900. I REALLY dig it! I was looking at my mountain of other amps and thinking about making some sales. I'll likely keep my 400+ and either a V4 or HD130 (bc i can play guitar through them) but plan on purging the other stuff.
Steel Bearing Hand might have been huge 20 some years ago. That's some solid retro death metal they are churning out.

The bass isn’t quite Djent Metal sounding, but it’s definitely got a bit of clank sound in there so I think you are onto something…

I don’t think that pedal can compete with an actual amp in terms of replicating a similar sound, but funny you mention Darkglass bc they are still pretty high on the list (a new bass and probably a Deluxe Big Muff Pi are currently up higher on my gear lust list at the moment)…
In fact, Darkglass seems to make a lot of things I could see myself using…

Yeah, I REALLY like that album even though I don’t usually venture quite that far into Death/Black Metal territory (usually due to vocal styles)…
Stumbled on that album about 4 or 5 months back…
Liked it enough to download their debut album as well (sounds very similar)…Again, I’m not crazy about their lead singer’s vocals, but there are some EPIC riffs on Slay In Hell…I’ve found myself listening to that album a lot more than I was expecting…
And lol-I know what you mean about being popular 20 years ago…
That is kind of how I felt about Power Trip before their tragedy…
I’m not saying they would have been as big as any of the Big 4 or even other Bay Area bands, but Nightmare logic really rips and I liked his vocals…

I have the 900 watt Alpha/Omega head and I really dig it! I can't believe how many players I dig have jumped to Darkglass, especially for touring: There is likely a marketing angle, but the tones can't be debated. I still use overdrive pedals. I have the A/O head and Vintage and X7 pedals. They have great grind and drive, and each has a unique character, but I don't think they don't doom for overdrive or fuzz bass tones: They respond to fuzz beautifully though!
Is it a tube amp? No, but it sounds is bomb! If a player has a rehearsal space where they can leave a tube bass head, by all means, do it! If you play around, it gets heavy real fast. Also, my experience w/ tube amps, a backup is necessary because they will be in the shop. I also like having an amp I can take to jam at someone's house.
IIR, I originally mentioned the Darkglass heads because you were talking about class-D amps with grind. As I reread this, it sounds like I'm pressuring you, ha! I hope it goes w/out saying, I'm just responding to your posts, I don't have any skin in the game and will likely have a whole new setup in a few months, ha!!!
Even Al Cisneros has been spotted with Darkglass on his pedalboard.
Right on... I tend to approach things as "effect sets" right now for our stuff and when we have shows, so it sounds like it'd fit what I'm doing already. I'll have to go find one to play with sometime...
Does any more of an endorsement exist in this universe?

I think I want another bass first, but after that it’s onto amp shopping…(currently I just have a 100w combo practice amp since I’m just playing on my own rt now)…
I’m currently leaning towards an Ampeg, but not sure I really want a full blown tube amp…
I get that the SVT tubes are what they are known for, but based on my budget and from what I’ve read on tube amps I’m actually leaning towards an SVT-7 Pro 1000-It seems more in line with my budget and I think (???) it’s more like a steady state amp along the lines of a Mesa Subway 800 (also in the running)…It’s listed as a “hybrid” (someone please feel free to educate me here bc I thought it was a steady state, but as I was typing this I looked it up and it’s listed as a “hybrid”)…
I wasn’t really thinking about an Ampeg until I plugged a Pbass into one at GC one day a few weeks back…
After doing that…Well…It’s currently the leader, but I’m still open to other ideas…
I’m kind of struggling to figure out what I want long term from a gear perspective bc I like a lot of Thrash/Groove/Nu Metal, but I’m thinking I wanna play more Stoner Metal in Ana actual band setting especially since I’m middle aged… I love how many “throwback” bass guitars and amps there are in the genre…
Obviously you don’t need a “vintage” amp/bass to play that kind of music (or vice versa I suppose-It’s my understanding that you can still use a passive bass in a Thrash Metal band with the right technique/pedals/EQ)..
I haven’t looked at Darkglass stuff in a while (came REALLY close to buying the Omicron last year but I think I want a true fuzz pedal first)…
Darkglass definitely looks like they have the necessary angst I want out of an amp (or at least a pedal)…

Take this from a non-gigging basement dweller, buuuut, if you are looking to "find" a sound, or your sound, you may be better off getting a power amp or cheap amp you can use as a pedal platform and experimenting with different pedals/preamps. I've been through a lot of money trying to find a sound with different amps, and, while it was fun, it didn't really lead me anywhere. Right now, as simple as it may sound, I can run a SansAmp BDDI into the effects return of an amp and be content with the tone. Then again, I'm not a tone aficionado with that good/particular of an ear.
THIS. All day. My amps of choice are GK because they can do it all. They can be very distinct tonally, or relatively hi-fi, or thumpy, etc. I set my amps up for a fairly neutral tone, and use various pedals to achieve my tones. Even my light dirt tones are better than I've ever gotten from my GK heads (NOT a knock on them at all, as they're not designed for that specific tone). Anyway, I have numerous "amps" at my feet because the 700RB and 400RB make such excellent pedal platforms and sound great on their own when needed. I never went with the separate pre/power amp configuration, but it's so much cheaper and faster to try a pedal out than getting a new amp every time you want to change it up. Lighter, too, even with a class D head!
Does anyone here have experience with the TC Electronic Thrust BQ500? I'm about to buy an amp head with around 300-500 Watts and have had my eyes on the Ampeg PF-500 for quite a while. But now I was thinking that maybe I should buy the cheaper TC Electronic Head and use it with a preamp pedal.
