Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Stoked for tomorrow, a guy is selling me a Matsumoku Aria 6 string. Going back to Matsumoku 6ers even if I have to put up with the Gibson scale length, Kawai was right I should of never sold that Black and Gold Aria Cardinal I had. This one is kind of odd though as it is a strat pickup set up, never saw a thor sound like that. Want to land a Vantage double bucker eventually too.

These days it's usually 4-5.5 mi at 8:00 pace four to five days per week. Before I injured my foot a couple years ago I could do a 3:15 marathon. :atoz:

I do the same but walk. I don't want to run all over campus and the town square. I did do an alpine climb machine in the apartments gym I never set foot in until now... I lost a lot of weight, but maybe it's time to cut down on activities that restrict my lung capacity :p

Hope the foot at least isn't painful or anything.

You been woodshedding those tracks?

I don't even know the bands name let alone a song name lol, and I think if I told him that it'd probably break his spirit.

i bought a Cusack Tap-a-Phase off of Reverb for $150 and shipping was like $8 which is really cheap and it got here really fast. There were places that wanted to charge me $30 to ship earplugs....

You bought -25db right and said you wished you got the 15?

On a note you can't answer would -15db plugs also be ok for shooting too? This is probably a question Julian or toast would be more privy to.

this is what i use, ive owned two sets and theyve been awesome. they have a list of audiologists you can visit that can do the molds for you and take care of getting you what you need. molds take about 20 minutes to make.

For shooting, I would go with the -25 db for sure. -15db might be ok, but better safe than sorry. For shooting I wear muffs. They are easy to take off and dont get lost in my shooting bag.

My grandpa was a B-52 crew chief in Vietnam and throughout the Cold War, and is basically deaf but won't wear a hearing aid, he's been around non stop jets for decades though.

Anyone know infantry vets with such hearing damage from the repeated firing? Not that I plan to go out to a range without protection, I just wondered how they did after their duties hearing wise.

If one is shooting guns semi-regularly with out hearing protection, then they have hearing damage.

I was artillery in the Army National Guard and part of our battle dress uniform was an ear plug case that went through our pocket. Plus my job was to load and fire the cannon so I had to have them in constantly on fire missions as I couldn't just do the press my ears closed with my fingers thing when others were shooting. Wear protection and not just for sex :D

Sweet, somone finally uploaded the Dead Man soundtrack:

You know, if Neil didn't have such an ego it would be awesome to hear him and Dylan Carlson collaborate on an Earth album.

It was up a year ago, hopefully whoever took it down doesn't kill this one.

Seems like -15db and a set for shooting is the way to go. Not a muff guy... When it comes to hearing protection that is.

So caught up 50 some pages. Here's what I learned in my time out...

- It was totally worth it
- I'd probably do it again

So didn't learn much.

DOOM.

Now let's see...

Congrats Ron!

Janitor, I should have totally made a weekend in Madison for your show. Cuda like most Bongzilla project are fuzzrific. So wish I was old enough to see Bongzilla in 90s Madtown.

On topic of stack size, I like a big wall of amps and cabs although I do all my own lifting/every cab I own has wheels. The size is definitely a concern I have about buying a dually. Ill stick to my big cabs. Eventually I am going to put my EVM 15s in a pair of TL606 cabs. But that will be done in an oversized fashion.

Dunwich/Corey, that's some wiring porn right there. Cough cough, coffee table book nick, cough cough.

Bands are going fine, prep for recording next month and writing material.

Not much else new, its good to be back.

Welcome back, dude.

By the time I even knew you were banned, they'd already wiped the posts (I also had to change one of my own on here).

You know what you should do? Make a couple TL606 2x15 cabs, but with Sunn type corners and tolex. That would look cool as hell.

Or give them the Peavey aluminum strips treatment, for maximum silly.
