I'm sure it does! I really liked those when they came out, back in Ye Olden Tymes.

Elder was absolutely worth the drive up to Ft. worth to see!

And I forgot which one of us mentioned Dreadnought, but I went in without familiarizing myself with their music and was absolutely FLOORED. That is an excellent band on multiple levels.

Really liked Dreadnought! Ruby the Hatchet was a very nice surprise too, I'd never listened to them before seeing them at the Austin show. Elder was good but sometimes with proggy bands after a while it just sounds like riff salad and I have to admit by the end of their set I was getting a little bored.

Oh, quit making me hate myself for being old and worn out on a Sunday night. I do really like the recordings I watched when deciding whether to drive to Ft. Worth and drive back with enough gas in the biological tank for Monday. Yes, now I'm the jackass who lives in Dallas and thinks driving to Ft. Worth is a chore, I admit it. Most of the population of California can go ahead and sue me. It just wasn't enough to make me want to feel wiped out on Monday morning, which I felt anyway, so I should have just gone.

Lesson learned. I'll just go next time. I'll feel better, either way. I swear I've learned that lesson.

My new handheld recorder got its first workout this week at the first practice in ages for my band (thank the friggen maker). It performed in a stellar fashion. The DR-40X is probably twice the handheld that my poor misplaced DR-05 was. If I ever find the old machine, I'll probably dump its card, wipe it and maybe sell it. It served me well, but the DR-40X just sounds better in every way. Also, those guys are pretty damn good. I'm going to have to get on the ball.

I kind of had the opposite reactions from you with Elder and Ruby the Hatchet. Now, admittedly I have been a very big Elder fan since 2011, so I have those riffs and passages branded into the back of my skull. Ruby the Hatchet had a great performance, but musically and vocally I thought their songs didn’t distinguish themselves from one to the next too much. Good set but I got bored toward the end right before the saxophone came out, then I snapped back into it.

I identify, especially after honing my stay in chops during peak ‘rona. But, then I googled up Dallas>Ft. worth drive time. COME ON, MAN!!!

Light ball-bustery aside, there’s a huge variation to what people perceive to be a hassle regarding travel distance. I’ve heard of people in Minneapolis getting a room when going to an event in St. Paul.

I added more clipping diodes to mine. IIRC there is some provisions on the board to add more if you want.... I think you can mess with some of the filter caps too, but its been a few years since I put mine together.

OH. If you need more diodes, I can prob send you some.... I have... lots.

Drive times are real. My studio is an hour away from home and its a PAIN to drive out there n back. The other side is I don't like going to SF for shows because of that same hourish drive. Its a very reasonable thing, imo.

RE: hand recorders... I'm still wanting to get one/haven't done it yet, so the comments on the one you got is good, lol. I'm curious how it works long term for ya.

Yes, I love my 250! It's more or less always on to give my Model T emulator a little boost and a little more sparkle, as both the Burning Sunn and the Kuro Exogol are relatively low gain. The 250 does so very transparently, if I'm running a distortion it goes into the 250 and the 250 certainly takes a back seat and lets the distortion's character through. I got it when I was mostly trying to replicate Al Cisneros.

It's a 90's yellow box model if I'm not mistaken. I switched out the input capacitor to get a bit more low end retention at higher gain settings, changed to a true bypass switch with a LED ring, and swapped the 3.5mm power jack for a standard 2.1mm barrel jack.

I considered upgrading to an EQD Grey Channel, but I decided not to as it wouldn't really add much.

I wanna build a Dunwich Cisneros Tone Generator which is a combined 250 and DS-1 as he used in the early Om days, and if it turns out well it would realistically replace my 250 but truth be told I don't think it really matters beyond a want to try it out / want to collect it perspective.

I’m still reading up on the circuit, but I’m thinking probably caps for low end retention and switchable diodes. I have a DOD Boneshaker which I’ve read is 250 based or at least has some DNA, so I’m gonna revisit that, too. Strong possibility I may build a couple more for my bro and lil’ homie.
