Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Was walking the dog last night (Doom-wiener, AKA Battle Dachshund) and had Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" on the headphones. I can see (Or, hear, to be more accurate.) why this is considered such a milestone album. It became one of my desert island albums, along with Om's "Advaitic Songs", and Steely Dan's "Aja".

Hey guys, been super busy since I just started student teaching. Also have my first multi-show weekend coming up! We moved practice spaces to San Francisco studios in Downtown Houston much closer to where I'm living than our last place so that's been real nice. The place is sketchy but in a very endearing kind of way lol! Our room is right next to Kill the Lizard, a local Houston SD-adjacent band so that's cool.

For bad news my frickin tube amp crapped out on me about a week ago. I was playing my doom axe with the mudbucker with no pedals. I'm not sure but I think maybe the lows that were getting put out was too much. No pops or anything, sound just stopped coming out. Whenever I turn my amp on there is a very tiny pop so I know the speaker cab is still functional. switched cables and basses and no dice. Amp turns on and the tubes fire up just fine too. If y'all have any recommendations on a fix I'm all ears!

Suicide Cages rehearsal tonight, show on Sun w/ some local studs and Glassing from Austin!

I preordered a IronEther Xeonograph Deluxe that arrived last week. Envelope filters don't fit with my current band at all, but I am really digging it!

I am having real time management issues... So many grand plans for projects and yet I've rewatched the new GoT show three times already. Adult ADD is real.

@ConfoundedBridg, enjoy the student teaching! I'm in my 11th school year and can say I really like being a teacher.

I loooooooove Kind of Blue. My bass teacher introduced me to it when I was 14. It was one of the first albums I purchased. Also, it is so much more listenable than the hard bebop that came before it.

In case you haven't checked it out yet:
The Clown from Charles Mingus is a great album, IMHO the best from Mingus.

Also, any listeners here to Bandcamp's The Metal Show? His interviews are not the best, but I found some great music there. Especially the last show was great (and I thought I hated prog?)

Sounds like that's entirely up to whether or not you want her to continue being your wife... But as far as this conversation goes, mine is also an educator.

As for dealing with stuff, I work in behavioral special ed. All sorts of things we deal with, but I've got a great team and there are plenty of things we DON'T have to worry about that other educators do, so it's always a "grass is greener" situation for everyone. We all get to choose our stress (well, at least some of it) as adults!

I have a BA in English Literature, and enjoy not only wordplay, but also the "observational" study of things said and meant. I don't go deep into it anymore, but still enjoy it.

There's a special place in (insert afterlife location) for people who teach and take on special needs children as a vocation.
