Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I always assume any time no one replies to my posts they just don't have the opinion or experience to say or suggest anything helpful.
Or I know sometimes I can say some weird things and realize later maybe it wasn't as funny to others as I thought/no ones gonna touch it with a 10 ft pole.

I am getting excited for new bass day. This will probably end up with me selling my other 5 strings and picking up a second Dingwall. I am torn between getting in on the Invalid Link Removed or one of the new Invalid Link Removed.

how do you guys feel about weekday shows?
I usually let the other guys book the shows but asked to just go easy on the weekday gigs. now im looking at tonight and Thursday gigs with work early the next morning.
I hate to be a a bummer but there always seems to be some excuse as to why we "have" to do these shows then we just end up playing last and I end up with a 215 sliding around in the back of my Honda all week.

I don't mind the weekday shows, but I do try to cut out early if I'm working in the morning. Sitting in a cube all day I can get through without much sleep, it was different when i had a physical job - no sleep made it really tough to get through the day.
Tell your bandmates that you guys shouldn't be playing so many shows close together, regardless of weekends or weekdays. If you're always playing shows then more people feel they can skip your show because you'll be playing again in a couple of weeks (or days). Once a month seems about right to me.
I dont mind a weekday set. The conditions of that are that its one set, and we dont have to drag our PA there and set it up.

We only do weekday shows if they're really awesome.
Also we usually only play once a month, we try to make our shows count so as to not over-saturate and have people get bored of us.
This applies to every band I've ever been in.

Unless it is a well known touring band like Red Fang or something along those lines, no way will we do a weekday show. You'll literally be playing to the other bands and bar staff.
1 show a month in town is too much for us. We're not popular enough to get a decent draw that often. Although we are playing 2 shows in April but that's an exception taking advantage of the hype over the new venue that's opening this week.

+1 to Ron and Sam. For a bit there we were doing once a month but we've since dialed it back, tossing in an out of town show once in awhile to break up the local shows.
Weekdays really depend on the show. I don't care about being tired for work, I care about only playing to 10 people on a Tuesday. We opened for Windhand on a Monday and did like 110 through the door which was worth it. Other weekday shows we've ended up playing to bands and bar staff.
Plus, I don't know how things go down in your cities, but shows here start too late and take too long to get moving. The one venue that gets a lot of stoner doom shows in particular advertises show at 9 pm, then they usually wait for "people" to show up and don't actually start until like 10:45. Then you have a 3 band bill with the last band going on at 1:00.
I try to remedy this by telling people my show will start at X:00 sharp but people still don't believe you and show up fashionably late. Makes being the main guy for a show incredibly stressful and frustrating.

The books look interesting but $68.00 for a paperback? No one's gone missing in our little corner of the woods - at least in the last 30 years or so.
