Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

The books look interesting but $68.00 for a paperback? No one's gone missing in our little corner of the woods - at least in the last 30 years or so.

Yeah the author was saying don't buy from Amazon and yadda yadda places, he said they got their hands on them somehow and are charging double or more. $25 bucks.

Plus, I don't know how things go down in your cities, but shows here start too late and take too long to get moving. The one venue that gets a lot of stoner doom shows in particular advertises show at 9 pm, then they usually wait for "people" to show up and don't actually start until like 10:45. Then you have a 3 band bill with the last band going on at 1:00.

I try to remedy this by telling people my show will start at X:00 sharp but people still don't believe you and show up fashionably late. Makes being the main guy for a show incredibly stressful and frustrating.
This is the deal here in Halifax. Even weekday shows start late and go til 2am. I'd go to way more weekday shows if they started early. As for weekend shows...we Maritimers love to drink and booze is super expensive here. People usually stay home til the very last minute to drink for less money. Alot of opening acts get missed.

Hi guys,

Longtime lurker in the S/D threads. I thought I'd post and ask for some advise on a cab. Currently I'm playing through a Mesa Buster head and am using an old kustom 215. I LOVE the looks of the kustom, but finding that it's farting out a lot. (BEAD or AEAD tuning with a POG adding octave up and down)

My question is, is it worth dropping new speakers (nice ones- like what's used in greenboy designs) in the kustom cab? Or should I save more and just go for a greenboy dually?

Thanks guys!

I'd probably get a set of 2 15" eminence legends I think it is should work nicely for that kind of cab. Probably only cost you $240ish plus shipping you could use that rig for a couple years to save up for something really fancy.

I am not playing until 2 on a weekday. After unloading 5am comes too quick for me to be happy at work the following day.

Actually that is a lie, I can be happy the next day. It is my coworkers that will suffer if I dont get enough sleep.

Not playing until 2am! I actually skipped going to see Noah after dinner last Saturday because the show started at 9:35and I knew it was like 2:15 long and I figured I would never make it through the movie I would be falling asleep LOL.

Hard to say with out knowing a lot more specifics about the Kustom. They may work fine, but I suspect there isnt enough cross sectional area in the port tubes (if I am thinking of the right cab) to make something like the 3015 or 15PR400 work. Sure you could get the length of the tubes right for tuning, but as you push those drivers hard, they are going to want a fair bit of breathing room.

A pair of those drivers is going to run you about $500. IMHO it is worth saving the extra cash to get something built around them.

YMMV.
