Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

You seem to hate everything but I don't think I've ever seen you recommend anything other than the Black Album....:)

you can't possibly just listen to that all the time.

Last few things ive been listening to:

Type o negative - world coming down
Soundgarden - superunknown
Thou - heathen
Ozzy - bark at the moon
Hum - youd prefer an astronaut
Carcass - surgical steel
Dead Poetic - New medicines
Finger 11 - greyest of blue skies

Did some tone tweaking right before practice today and it actually didn't result in me wanting to pull my hair out. Dialed a lot of gain out of both the Wizard Fuzz and on my amp and brought in a little more low end at the amp level. Also adjusted the depth knob a bit on the WF. My end goal was to pull some of the nasally mids out of my tone and get a little more full range clarity, and I think I nailed it. My tone isn't as in your face mix-cutting mids aggressive now, but still cuts through great, and I have a lot more dynamic control with my fingers now.

TLDR: I liked my tone before, but now I like it even better. I think it sits better in the mix and has a better overall sound. Amazing what just a little knob turning can do.

I think I might also pick up a Pedal Train JR and just put my WF, Small Stone and tuner on it. Don't really need the volume pedal since I only use one pickup on my EGC, and I haven't been using my Bluebeard or my El Oso. I find my BB and El Oso hard to dial in with the same amp settings I use on my WF. I suspect that has a lot to do with the WF technically being a preamp and doing a lot more tone shaping than the other pedals.

Tonight try running the effects send from your gk to the effects return of the orange. That should have the levels balanced about right.
Hell if it's a preamp tube it'd be a great excuse to roll a few tubes.
Get some new TOANS man.

I don't know, but I don't like changes. ANY changes. Makes me suspicious. (Narrows eyes, looks left and right.)
I love change. I'm always telling my wife to dye her hair and get different cuts. That way is easier to pretend I'm with a different woman.
Still, not real sure about straight web page and no app. Time will tell.
