Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I've heard nothing but good things about the Ultimate Drive. I have the EHX OCD clone and it's killer for bass, as well. I don't know how similar the two are, but they're both clones of the same pedal so I can't imagine that they're too far apart. I'm half temped to just get a UD so I can A/B the two.
Wow... This sucks. So you're telling me, that you guys weren't "cool" enough? That is some lame ass poopie. I was mainly talking about bands like high on fire ( no mega beard in that band), Torche (could pass as an opening band for Foo Fighters), Goatsnake (pretty much jeans and tshirts), Boris (no beards), Melvins ( weird looking, but that's it), plus more.
I think the use of amps is more a desire to have a certain sound, than to fit a stereotype. Laz (among others) only uses 1 cab...
Hair? I hate long hair. It feels shaggy. And some people can't grow hair. Nick Oliveri is bald as hell. Denim vests? Yeah, but a lot of genres have done the vest thing. The jean vest or motorcycle jacket is just a part of rock and roll music. You'll find this look throughout the history of rock music. The only thing that separates a punk vest from a doom vest, is the band patches that are featured.
You can look like a stoned out mountain man, and I guess that's what y'all are trying to say. I just never thought about this genre commanding a uniform because of the above mentioned bands. I think I'm going to trim my beard back to a goatee and see if I'm any less doom at the upcoming show. Ill probably grow it back for winter though. Social experiment time! Maybe I'll find a nice shirt at goodwill or something too.
Agree with all of this. There was no uniform when the whole movement started. Some people think that there is now, but whatever.
I discovered long ago when I was single that a halfway decent looking shirt upped the odds with the ladies. Also, you might get profiled a little less by police. People in general will treat you better, it's poopy but that's how it goes. You wouldn't believe how much respect I get when I'm wearing one of my suits...
Anyway, I know what kind of music I like, I don't need to constantly advertise it to the world.
I still have and wear band shirts, but it's not the only thing I wear.
I heard someone say they liked the EXH Glove I think is the name for the EHX clone better than the actual OCD and the Ultimate Drive on bass. I can't wait to get my hands on the Soldigoldfx Beta Bass Drive to A/B with the Joyo. Though the Joyo has way more gain.
It's incredible how that works, isn't it? I've only ever received breaks from the police if I was clean shaven (or maybe a small goatee) and had very cleanly cut hair. If I have the stubbley beard/mustache/ratty overgrown needs cut hair, it's all over.
My job doesn't require that I wear anything more than an old band t-shirt and whatever jeans that don't have holes in revealing places. But I still make an attempt to wear a collared shirt, nice dress jeans, and occasionally a sport coat or blazer to feel and look a little more professional than the metal dude with the Slayer shirt, shorts, and a mohawk. Nothing wrong with those things, but they make it difficult to be treated as a professional.
I'm the least stoner/metal dude, superficially. Short hair, glasses, don't drink or smoke pot. I used to have long hair, kept my beard shaggy and wore flannels, but that was when I was in punk bands and it was supremely uncool with that crowd lol. I'm terrible at fitting in with cliques and fashion, just love music
@JoeVictim, all the bands you mention have been around a long time with solid reputations. But If you take a look at all the "trendy" bands in stoner/doom and all the bands that are getting signed to the big stoner/doom labels, there is definetly a "uniform".
my band is borderline awful, but we always get shows because our singer looks like a stripper and we have other girls that look like strippers making out or dancing at our shows, in fact i'm not even sure people realize that there is a band playing at our shows

Well I played the gk mb500 into the bassic everything but the mid cut flat (that's off) and it's pretty loud that bastard air moved and such. Then plugged in the UD and hammered out a couple ultra loud notes and the thing shut off. So I guess my house didn't like both the amp and voodoo pedal power on one outlet. So I took the pedal and tried it into my little crate 1x8 combo on a barstool setup and it sounded really good and I usually hate dirt on little amps as they get so fizzy and funny sounding. So far the fabtone and UD are the only dirt that sound good on the small platform to my ears, the Bluebeard sounded terrible through the little amp but really good through the bassic. I think most dirts need "room to breath" so to speak to really open up and show what they have especially on bass (fuzz most of all).
I was using my chris Aiken p which has a 1/4 pounder like pickup, the .022 cap which is awesome, with the power slinkies I can get right at the tone of pick/nail playing with my fingers, and in the other direction just a smidge darker still all the definition.
I think it'll be quite fun to use the ABY and throw the BB into an amp into the bassic, then the UD into an amp into the dually.

The people that judge your intent by what you wear and or play (Orange, Rics, Les Pauls etc.) aren't really there to listen in the first place.
Not hatin on anybody who plays that stuff as I like all that stuff too. haha
It just reminds me of punk kids that calls someone a fag for not being able to do 30 chalky bong rips while hanging out. Same kind of thing. I'm cool because I smoke sooooo much pot, "Like, an 1/8 only lasts me like a day or 2." Sure dude. Do what you do, but don't act like a 14 year old.
Image related stuff and what you're "supposed" be like, look like and so on, is just a bunch of stupid high school trash. It just wont be left behind in high school like it should be.
Which reminds me of all the celebrity "news", same sh*t. Gossip about the "popular" kids. Sh*t annoys the f*ck out of me. Let it go.
I had a great time in HS, but that sh*t is history.

I'd call that label out and make asses of them on social media.
