Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Finally cleaned and polished my EGC for the first time since getting it, and also put on some new Circle Ks. The bass has held up really well. Looks almost brand new aside from some character scratches and dings.

Honestly forgot just how amazing this thing sounds with fresh strings. I should probably start changing them every 6 months or so. Love that clean piano tone I can get out of it, sounds so massive and clear.

I am trying to pick out the artist oil color to stain the body for the JazzBird build. The neck is one of those high gloss and deep amber tint Modern Player Jaguar necks with the block inlays. I know a black stain will match but trying to think if dark blue or dark green or some other color would match that neck too. Just tinting the gun stock oil with the artist oil to give see through to the grain look.

Almost as I had to stop by the girlfriend's bank to deposit her check since I was down that way and the super hottie bank manager who is friend's with our office sexytery at work was flirting me up with her cute face and perfect arse. I love when she calls me in her office for a chat. I love when super skinny gals get in their upper twenties/lower thirties and everything pops in place that was missing before. So the wife and I both missed Twin Peaks when it was new so we decided to queue it up on Netflix.
For through about 4 episodes and still not sure if serious.
Interesting for being a time capsule though.
Was better than the 4400 which had all the creativity and plot of a porno and no T&A.

I need to watch twin peaks, I got through 3 episodes a couple years ago. I hated the music sooo much. The story was interesting but I just got distracted by moving and never continued.

I tried to rewatch Twin Peaks and it's a good show, but I couldn't hang with it. I saw the whole thing when it was newish though. That and the prequel movie. I appreciate the good qualities of it and the context of a television show like that on network tv at the time it came out, but I guess it just doesn't have repeat viewing appeal for me. It might at a different time/mood.

Blueberry oatmeal for breakfast this morning, sweetened with local clover honey. Yum yum yum.

I know this is going to make me sound like I can't focus on a new piece of gear for more than 5 minutes, but hear me out...

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a GK MB800. Main reasons are it's loud, it's light, and Corey's clean tone on the Dunwich demos gave me a chubby.

For my black metal band, I'll probably still want to run my dirt before the delay/reverb, so I'm thinking about keeping the VT Bass on the board, but having it set to a flat EQ. Then running that into the GK (set to low gain) and using the EQ to tweak for the cab, while still sending the "flat" signal to the PA.

For other bands, I can obviously just switch off the VT and use the GK however I like.

Have I lost the plot, or is this feasible/a good idea?

I fully support anyone buying a GK MB800, one of my favorite amps I've ever owned. It gets plenty dirt for a "clean" tone, which I like, and it's a great pedal platform. They're really reasonably priced for how much power they have and how great they sound. Plus, I can fit mine in the pocket of a gig bag with the speakon and power cable. It'll be relegated to my demo recording/backup amp once Mr. Grumpy gets here, but it's been totally solid as my main amp for the past 6 months.

Girlfriend surprised me yesterday. I had the cd that came with the Sabbath bass tab book in the car. So the songs with no vocals are played twice, once with bass and once without bass. When I skipped to the next song to skip the bassless version she said no let it play again I like that song. She said I like these guys they don't noodle too much and just play LOL. She had been listening to it going to work instead of the radio, I was proud.
