Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got the internet guy coming over on Wednesday to get the new place wired up. That'll be nice. Only need to take half a day off to wait, so that's good. It'll be nice to have an afternoon off with nothing to do but sit on the porch and wait for dude to show up. Of course as soon as he's done I'll be working on the endless to do list again.

A lot of venues in the UK seem to have PA support for the bass/kick, even the small 50 capacity ones. Not sure if it's just more common, or if we've been spoilt because the venues we play at tend to be dedicated to hard rock/metal etc.

On the other hand, cabs are almost always shared between all the bands, and we're usually limited to 15-minute changeovers and a quick line check, so swings and roundabouts ;)

One of these days I've got to goto the UK. Sounds like y'all really respect heavy music.

Man, I must suck at posting.

I would like to see Sabbath, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, and King Diamond play on the same show (not what I asked, but still). These days, I don't think sabbath could hang with some newer doom bands that take it beyond Iommi worship. A band like Pallbearer, would blow the vocal doors off Ozzy (not sure how hard that is, these days).

Looking at old posters, Brian Adams? Ew. Not to mention all the terrible Ozzfest, Numetal lineups. Sabbath has been on some weird shows, huh?

Maybe I'm weird but I don't put together imaginary shows in my head. I enjoy being surprised by someone I didn't know of or consider before I bought to see the headliner.
Lots of band have weird openers though. I can't think of a single artist that opened for Tool that I listen to.
You got to figure Black Sabbath for alot of their career have been serious outsiders in pop culture. Very few promoters really understood them.

With the emergence of doom in the last 20+years, plus the more recent explosion of doom bands within the last 3 years, I would have anticipated a lineup consisting of Sabbath and at least one "doom" band.

Just bringing some topic to the conversation table. But, I'm cool with talking cars again.

Anyone using the EHX B9 pedal yet?

Here's the thing though, 99% of the people that listen to Sabbath don't consider them doom and likely have no idea what doom is. Most associate Sabbath as classic rock and lump them in with bands like Zep, AC/DC, Deep Purple etc.
