Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Because they can't. My guitarist's wife who fronts a stoner rock band herself is also a pretty popular DJ on the big local Clearchannel radio station that plays a lot of the active rock stuff. She's always trying to squeeze or sneak in local rock bands or new stuff from national touring bands that aren't well known. People call the station and freak out. What is this crap, this is horrible, I want to hear Godsmack and ACDC don't even play this crap again. People get ANGRY. They don't want to hear new music. We're in the minority, folks. Just gotta accept that.

I accept that but don't understand it.

So it's those 10 people calling after they play something new that ruins it for the thousands of other people who are listening and liking what they are hearing and might want to hear something new in the same vein of music they like.

Those people suck.

Any of you hosers watched the tv show Silicon Valley? May be the funniest show on TV (hbo) right now. I've just been torrenting the first season and it's fantastic. This is the clip that got me into it.

Been borrowing a Carvin bass head while my Orange is being serviced. I'm really digging it. Didn't think it took pedals very well, but played around a bit and am pretty happy with the sound. Enough so that when my Orange gets back I'm going to sell it and pick up a new Carvin BX1600. Dual power amps, 800w/ch @ 2ohms. Tube pre and poopie loads of flexibility. And only $600 brand new. Going to be slimming down the bass collection to pick up a PB4, also. Been wanting a dark bass...some sort of dark brown with black hardware and fretboard with no markers. Carvin will do that poopie no problem! ;)

There's a few rock stations in Washington/Vancouver range that do weekly local act blocks. I was going to send in my bands stuff before we went on hiatus. And when I landed in Austin earlier this summer there was a station that played Quilt followed by like Zeppelin or something. But there is too little exposure for retro rock (god I hate that term, it's just straight up rock) and it sucks.

I know, it's weird.

My mom actually quite likes Sleep, and likes some Electric Wizard, and even likes weirder stuff like SubRosa. Sleep, according to her, really reminds her of the shows she used to go to when she was young. I can't imagine she's that far from typical.

I don't get it, either. If you like Sabbath and Zeppelin, you should at least find Sleep's "Dragonaut" pretty listenable.

That's first run geddy!!!! I would swap that v3 for that bass being the v3 is a odd ball


First run geddy's had:
-Special neck plate
-62 reissue pickups with copper shielding
-Skinnier necks then non LE
-real block inlays, not painted
-different tuners

Totally going for it. He lives in town and is wanting this because he v4 is not doing so hot. Maybe I can get that v4 cheap and fix it up while I'm at it.

Guy with the acoustic amps delivering it to me so waiting on him.

This little bastard is 62 pounds!

It's a Vocal PA channel and a guitar channel. Also works as a stereo amp he says. I still got that riaa preamp too.

Many years ago, around the time that the Iommi solo album came out (the one with all the different singers) i was playing the first high on fire album at the record store where i was working. A middle aged dad with a couple of kids came in. After about ten minutes he asked if we were listening to the new Iommi album. I said no, and showed him the high on fire album, also told him about sleep. He walked out of the shop really excited about his new copies of the art of self defense and sleeps holy mountain.
