Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Had a pretty rough practice last night, we're gonna start cracking down and jam three times a week to get ready for the demo, I have high hopes for tomorrow night, I think last night my guitarist has a little too much to drink and my drummer could stay focused cuz he's had a lot **** going on lately.
Vocalist has been coming through with a lot great improvements though and new lyrics.

In other news I got the t-40 singing thanks to raising the pickups and using eyeballkids settings for the Bassman.

Yeah we had a rough one Wednesday, understood after not playing as a unit for 4 weeks ish.
Saturday it's time to set some goals and get a decent recording brewing.
None of us have the time or money to schedule an outside party.
We just need to record and produce this on our own.

Going to a life celebration for a friend and drummer in one of our older bands that passed away after fighting the big C.

Hoo boy, the boss just bought a couple of pallets of Altec tube PA gear. He's after some compressors that were in the pile, but apparently there's some high-wattage tube power amps in there. He says I can paw through them and take whichever one that I want. I'll probably have to wait until Monday to grab it, but hot damn that's exciting.

Id mos def be interested in a 200+ watt tube power amp if he bes selling.

Have you ever used PA woofers for your cabs? Some people say that woofers of MCM Electronics or Daytone work great, but others say that I cannot crank up the volume (not good for stoner metal!!!), otherwise it will start farting.

Ive bought and used Mcm woofers before, they're decent/great for what you pay and I never had a farting problem.

NBD, my Carvin PB4 setup for BEAD tuning arrived. Looks great, feels fantastic (love the neck profile and finish), seems pretty light and sounds nice. I only got to play it for about 5 minutes on my lunch break. I may still swap out the strings for DR nickel Lo-Riders and the pickup for a Dimarzio Model P, but I'll wait and see how I like the tone with more extensive playing first.

Curious: Why do so many of you tune a 4 string to B instead of getting a 5 string?

For me, 4 string basses are cheaper, more easily found and strings are less expensive. Also I prefer the look of 4 stringers.

This link leads you to discussion about bargain speakers. However I don't see those speakers in instrumental speakers list in retailer's website. They are listed as PA or woofers

I live in Ann Arbor and will definitely measure the individual room for each driver.

For your cab, depending on port length, Peavey's BW1505-8DT or the 1502's.

That is sexy, and I am jealous of Carvin's quick turn around time.

Curious: Why do so many of you tune a 4 string to B instead of getting a 5 string?

I think it is because a lot of people meander there via drop d and c tuning. For some reason drop tunings make more sense in my brain on a 4 banger.

Because I don't find 5 strings necks comfortable, and I don't use the higher strings all that much, so they're not missed.

I will say this. I love a fender 4 string neck, but they have yet to make a 5 string neck that felt as good as my Music man to me.

I actually don't mind most 5 string necks, that part doesn't bother me much. I did debate getting a PB5, because I do sometimes go off on runs and fills where I could go higher than what a 4 string offers in B tuning. Most of the time though, as usual, I'm a caveman. Me play big strings, me make low sound, me like heavy.

I tuned my five string up to C, does that count? I only play it at home.

Anyone tried the catalinbread Manx? I just impulse ordered a blem one.

Edit: it's a muff with bauxandall eq.

Oh yeah, it's been my favorite bass pickup for ages. I've converted quite a few other bassists to it. I've actually got a brand new, still unwrapped. I bought it for my pine body build. So if I decide I do want one in there, it's already paid for and ready to go. I don't think I have any spare packs of DR strings around, since I never change my strings.

Pulled the 2 D10BX-D bag ends in from the garage to be sure levels are set on the VT with the latest pedal board chain.
Holy forking knob diddle.

Letting my ears settle a little again before I go at it again.

Had to drop the volume on the HPF to keep from feeding back and keep the gain up on the pedals.
Mostly completely dropping the OD units out of the mix.
May try patching the board through the effects chain next round. See if I can get a happy mix.

Also found one of the 1/4" to speak on cables was bad for some reason. Need to tear into it and find out *** happened.

The dual 210 cabs just don't have the punch or low end offered by the 215 JBL cab.

Seriously considering getting some 4625 Cabaret clone cabs to house the E140's.

Thanks, I went crazy over deciding exactly what specs to do lol. Yep, string through body. Though you can load string through the bridge too, if desired.
