Hoo boy, the boss just bought a couple of pallets of Altec tube PA gear. He's after some compressors that were in the pile, but apparently there's some high-wattage tube power amps in there. He says I can paw through them and take whichever one that I want. I'll probably have to wait until Monday to grab it, but hot damn that's exciting.

From the sound of it, there's a lot of stuff in the lot. He said I could take one, but I know he's planning to sell a few pieces to pay for the rest. I'll let you know what I find out.

Worked till 3 AM yersterday, it's noon here now, up at 8 and working since then. Guys renovating my block been drilling since early morning, doesn't help much in my work.

BTW, how do you guys record your practices?
I think we got too loud as our phone apps fart out on us from some time.

I have a handheld tascam. I bring it to every practice, and record the whole thing. Most of the time I end up deleting 95% of it, but some times there are things I want to keep as reference.

During my first rehearsal with my new band, we were discussing the feel of one of the songs. The drummer wanted me to do a plodding march kind of feel, where I was apeing drum rolls "bum buuuuum bum bum buuuum bum" ish. We went a couple rounds, then I said "So we want a march, but not a full on Sousa?" To which the singer and I both simultaneously replied "Never go full Sousa!!!"

... and for the cab, I got 70's Earth Sound Research cab from my friend, but the speakers are blown up..

Looks a lot like the shallower Peavey 215 cabinet. I used Eminence CB158s in mine, lined it with mattress topper, sounded great through the low mids, but rolled off quickly below ~F#. I blame it on the cabs smaller dimensions, but also wonder if I was a bit zealous on the lining. The CB158s are a great speaker, and seem to take to lots of boxes readily.

Correct. We had a couple songs in D, and as I had it, the system was weak in that register.

To be fair, I could probably have solved a portion of the issue with more volume and EQ, but I also hated moving the damn thing, so I shuffled it off

Have you ever used PA woofers for your cabs? Some people say that woofers of MCM Electronics or Daytone work great, but others say that I cannot crank up the volume (not good for stoner metal!!!), otherwise it will start farting.

Hey guys, a kid trying to play stoner rock/metal in Michigan here.

What part of MI?

I bought my first head Peavey Firebass 700 and for the cab, I got 70's Earth Sound Research cab from my friend, but the speakers are blown up.

Cab's dimension is 39'' x 23.5'' x 15''. Old speakers have nothing but "BG15" and serial numbers, but they are 15'' speaker. (I don't know about their ohms...)

I'm trying to get warm, round, and full tone like Geezer Butler's in Master of Reality or Orchid's Mouths of Madness. Can you guys recommend me good speakers?

Can you measure the length of that slot port?

Btw, I see some people using PA speakers instead of bass speakers for their cabs. Is it okay to use those, because I heard that it makes some "farting noise" when it gets too loud? [/qupte]

How about loudness levels? My only issue is that when we were playing on combos everything was ok and our phones were doing OK. Now I'm playing an SVT through 410 + 210, guitarist plays a valve Marshall head through a 412 Hiwatt cab and our drummer is pretty heavy handed. We tried to simply wrap our phones with jackets, but it's all muffled and inaudible then.

We practice obscenely loud. The Zooms have plenty of travel on the mic preamp. My H2 is the older model and it's got a low, medium and high setting and for each setting has a 0-100 gain setting.

This link leads you to discussion about bargain speakers. However I don't see those speakers in instrumental speakers list in retailer's website. They are listed as PA or woofers

I live in Ann Arbor and will definitely measure the individual room for each driver.

Had a pretty rough practice last night, we're gonna start cracking down and jam three times a week to get ready for the demo, I have high hopes for tomorrow night, I think last night my guitarist has a little too much to drink and my drummer could stay focused cuz he's had a lot poopie going on lately.
Vocalist has been coming through with a lot great improvements though and new lyrics.

In other news I got the t-40 singing thanks to raising the pickups and using eyeballkids settings for the Bassman.
