I remember watching the McCartney in USSR DVD and they talked about how the Soviets would make copies of Beatle LPs using x-rays. A bit eerie but awesome.
My whole office looks like the cast of Walking Dead this week. Weather has been rainy and/or gloomy all week. On the drive in I hit Main street and the row of cars at the light lots of people were yawning.
If you have the money to front the vinyl production, you can get away with having the records made for as little as $8 per record cost. Sell em for $15 and you can make some money. It's not that simple though. Most places the minimum order is going to be at least 250 units, which is really hard for a little known band to sell enough of those to even come close to breaking even. I'll modestly say I think Supervoid has had great success for a hobby band that can't tour and who's main exposure has been internet word of mouth. If we had Filaments vinyls to sell at release, I'd be extremely shocked if we would have sold more than 50 copies independently without the promotional support of a label or marketing agency, leaving us with 200+ units sitting in a closet forever
But take a band like Bongripper who has established themselves pretty well, and charges an extremely low/reasonable price for their albums ($22 for a 2xLP). Their profit margin probably isn't that big, but they make sure they only order units they can successfully move.
I did this in Billows, mainly because we had absolutely zero merch. People would ask us for CDs after the show and I'd just hand em a card and tell them they can go download it for free on bandcamp. It's also good that you're giving the person something physical, so they're more likely to remember you/look you up online the next day instead of just forgetting about you.
Yeah, I'm feeling the seasonal shift. Also been busy as hell so my ass has been dragging. Math class until late last night, then trying to wind down to get to sleep at a decent hour. Didn't work so well. I usually mix my own iced coffee but it was shaging cold this morning so I got a gigantic-ass coffee from the gas station - again traces of hazelnut. Time to start brewing my own again. Coffee maker is still packed away in a box in the garage from the move.

It took us a long time to get where we are now, we recorded our first record in 2005, so we're coming up on 10 years. We've never did any big tours, just a lot of word of mouth and file sharing through the internet in the early days. By the time we released our first vinyl we had a bit of a following, and then the vinyl and the album just being well received helped us more from there. We always try to keep our prices low, and being able to press more records at once helps with the cost/profit ratio, and we put the money we make back into making more records/merch, or recording or shows. Things definitely didn't happen over night, we sat on boxes of cds for years slowly plugging away before things picked up.
But we've never sent our record out to labels, or for review, we do virtually no promotion outside of random social media, there's no reason our band should be as well know as we are, we've done everything wrong, and somehow it's worked out for us. Definitely not complaining, just saying we're not the best model for business out there, it works for us, but I have no idea why.
I was using you mainly as an example of how someone could potentially profit off of vinyl sales. I don't know why anyone likes you either! 
Meant to add above that I tried out the bass-modded DS-1 at band practice and it sounded pretty good! Let's just say the Volt Thrower and Bluebeard are in no danger of getting kicked off the board, though.
Pelham I was listening to your soundcloud,great stuff by the way, but your song the Journey Into Parts Unknown made me think of the Green Bastard from parts unknown.

The suspect was killed after his car rolled over fleeing the scene and he was shot by police. His twitter account had the flag of ISIS on it, and although probably not directly connected with the organization, he was most certainly influenced by their ideals. ISIS has called for attacks on Canadians and even suggested running people over with their cars.
Today: It seems a military officer was shot point blank. This is a day after Canada began sending their F18 fighter jets to fight ISIS in Iraq. Although this attack can be random, it does seem to be a targeted attack on Canadian military. Shooting a military officer at the War Memorial site was probably purposeful, considering there could have been a lot more people they could have shot on Parliament hill. This could be an attack with a statement about Canada's military presence abroad and their fight against ISIS.
