Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

With digi downloads, and so much info and content online for bands, do you guys make like band business cards? Name of band contact info for shows, link to Facebook bandcamp etc.?

This would be free and like most of you guys are saying it's exposure first before you get paid. This gives them everything they need to know and potentially free music in a easy to keep and take away style.

How do you find someone's demon?
that's exactly what we did. Printed up business cards with bandcamp and fb links. We give them out with vinyl purchases and leave them at the tables in the bar/club.

Good idea! Some places do free business cards too. I'll see if I can put something together.

Pm'd on the demon.

I've seen them be very effective for some bands but completely fail for others. Guess it depends how much interest your live shows generate in the first place. My old band tried it but it never got us anywhere because we were laughably terrible. Though, my friend's band started using business cards once other people besides their friends and family started creeping into their shows. Helped them a lot with word-of-mouth publicity especially considering they hadn't even so much as recorded a demo at the time. Pretty sure they've stopped using them now that they have a more consistent following.

Still, for the price you're paying these days for a stack of cards its definitely not the worst idea. Its affordable and gives people a professional impression of your band.

Yea I just saw it as a small and cheaper way to reach people. Everyone has a pocket, wallet or purse. Hand them out, have them spread out filling out the merch table empty spaces to look full and inviting.

I'll lose your stickers, or they'll peel and die a linty death in my pocket. I'll forget my cash or not be prepared to buy CDs/shirts right then, but if you gave me a card that wasn't a big post card I'd instinctively toss it in my pocket even if it's just to not litter. So it's stuck with me and getting a ride out of the bar and to somewhere else where it might be seen.

Really hopefully you got music somewhere be it demo or what have you so it's also essentially something for free to encourage them to pick it up and think more about you.

Maybe if you got bigger you could switch and say charge for digital but those who are at shows and get a free card get 1 free download of whatever set of songs. See then they get something for legit free and if they share it their friends, the friends can either come to the show or buy your music?

Oh in similar news, people think the milkducttape manimal skeleton T-shirt is badass, I get questions and compliments constantly for it. I dig that as I personally love the shirt, as does mom and grandma!

this band alternative band in LA got a bunch of thumb drives made with their logo on them and would put their stuff on there, i remember one summer you could get discount thumb drives at the dollar store rediculously cheap and then they probably just stamped a custom rubber stamp logo on it

The Easter egg potential of that is so overwhelmingly cool.

poopie, our drummer can't come to the practice today because "something came up." We've played yesterday with his punk/rock/funk band that I don't really care about and everything was fine and dandy.
I know it's probably not his fault, but it pisses me off nevertheless, he's the one who cancels our practices most frequent.
I have a bad experience with drummers, they are always the most flaky for some reason.
