Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part Ten - What is this thread about again?

I have a friend down there. I know there is a big death metal scene, as well as a bunch of annoying scene kid deathcore bands (yuck). Confused Little Girl is from Orlando, awesome band. Played with them when they are on tour and they are good friends with my old band (and probably father of fires). Floor/Torche is Miami rooted. Don't know about the actual scene though.

It seems to me that Florida has historically had zero for a heavy music scene. Torche moved to ATL, and I'm pretty sure Brass Castle is in Portland now. Can't think of another active heavy band from the sunshine state. Forgive me if I'm wildly misinformed or outdated but that's been my impression for 20 years.

It seems the warmer it gets the less likely you are to have heavy bands...maybe latin america is the exception, but they are just crazy.

My homeboy Troy is on the Gibson. He used to play in Hardcore punk band Holy Mountain amongst others. Don't tell me about heavy and Florida. Fort Meyers might suck, but Tampa is where it's at. Bands like Fatal, Nazi Dust, Sorcerer, Murder Suicide Pact, Volcanic Slut, and Thrillhoes are playing heavy. Not necessarily slow, but there are plenty of dudes that like the sludgey.

WHOA. No heavy bands from Florida? Maybe not stoner/doom bands, but there are a lot of amazing death metal bands from there.

Cannibal Corpse, Death, Decide, Atheist, The Absence, Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, Iced Earth, Cynic, etc. Death Metal was practically founded in Florida. Also, Georgia is not far from Florida, and they have a killer sludge scene.

The singer of Party Time is the singer of The Absence. Yeah, I know him.
