Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part Ten - What is this thread about again?

Don't even get me started on the quantity of over entitled, under employed losers I have met that call themselves "promoters" in the underground scene. From what I can tell, becoming a promoter involves 10 easy steps:

1) Make a Facebook page for your "business" (no business license or incorporation necessary, you will not be filing taxes or insuring ANYTHING)

2) Find a karate dojo, flop house, abandoned muffler shop or roller rink to book a show.

3) Book a tour package of a mid level out of town bands to play on a Wednesday night. Guarantee them twice what you could make if everyone in the area who attends shows paid to get in twice. Book 5 local bands to play.

4) Ask on Facebook for someone to make you a Photoshopped flyer and post it on said Facebook page and possibly Twitter (followers consist solely of out of town friends and the bands you've booked)

5) Get the youngest band to "volunteer" to run the show (take $$ at the door, bring a crap PA, fail to keep everyone on time, etc.)

6) Hang out with out of town bands outside show, plan house party or midnight burger joint hangout afterwards. Kick someone out and verbally "ban" them from all local shows.

7) Collect money, pay touring bands half what you guaranteed them. Pay local bands nothing. If they complain, blame it on them for not bringing more people to the show, explain how you have to "cover your expenses". If they insist, explain it's "paying your dues" or "supporting the scene".

8) ...

9) PROFIT! (do not spend on future shows, especially a functioning PA or advertisement)

10) Start a band (be the singer, because you can't play an instrument), book your band in the supporting slot for every show, make connections with touring bands, get them to book your band on all the shows in your state on their next tour, then "quit the scene" because it's "taken too much out of you".

Of course there are exceptions to everything, some exaggeration for entertainment purposes, the names have been changed to protect the guilty and the innocent, IMHO, IME, YMMV, consult your physician before use, offer not valid in some states, etc. and so forth.

Messing around with riffs the other night. Pbass into my vintage Rat through DI. The rat cuts quite a bit of the very low end frequencies, but it's a lot more noticeable live than recorded.

Finally!

I was trying the RAT out on my pedal board with one of my side gigs last night. There's one song that's kind of Sabbath sounding on the intro with a very heavy bass line, worked pretty well. I really want to try it with a clean blend to squeeze a little more low end out of it though. The low end cut is pretty noticeable compared to my muff, which doesn't really cut through a mix very well, but has TONS of low end. I would try modding it, but I actually use it on guitar pretty frequently, so I wouldn't want to mess with it. I've considered getting one of those Rat Tails, but I've never tried one out to see how it differs from a standard RAT.
