Storing basses

I don't think there is an issue with hanging them off the wall - I'm sure Embellisher can attest to that :D
I keep mine on a stand... the dust comes right off with a quick wipe, so that really isn't much of an issue; plus I don't think I'd go through the hassle of keeping my bass in a case every time I finish with it esp since it ain't no $$$ bass anyways :) Just my old faithful, dust and all :D
Right you are! All of mine hang on the wall. Nothing to worry about, except for dust. The ones that don't get played a lot get a weekly dusting, the rest of them are never up there long enough to accumulate dust.

I haven't found wall hangers that can handle 3" necks. :hmm:

I've seen it, it's hanging in my house. I built one for one of my six-strings, it's not easy, but I can hang on it.

I'll send pics. You pay for materials and shipping and I'll make you some.

I keep 6 of my favourite vintage basses hanging on the wall. And I use Fret Swing CC-01 holders, they seem to be the best.
As long as you've got good humidity control in the room, you shouldn't have any issues by hanging them.

Cheers,
TD

PS - I use to keep them all in their cases, but found I didn't play them enough. Out of sight, out of mind.

i'm buying a new bass soon and I'm glad this thread got put up -- should I really invest you know, about $30-40 dollars for a hardshell case? I really want to keep it nice and clean without dust or any potential damage. I already have a gig bag but is it worth to buy the hardshell case? If so I'm willing to pay a little extra.
I don't like cases. They take up too much room. But a lot of people like them.

Here is a lengthy thread on the subject, with plenty of arguments for each side. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102827&highlight=gigbag+case

I've had my guitars, and now bass, hanging on the wall for years. Before I had kids I kept them on stands but the wall hangers keep them safe from little hands but also easily accessible for practicing. I rarely have a good chunk of time to practice so I wind up doing a lot of shorter sessions throughout the day. Having to take my bass in and out of a case every time would be a PITA. Now I just grab it off the wall and play. I even leave it plugged to the amp most of the time.

As I'll have my fretless all day, every day at school, I'm just going to leave it in the gigbag. After playing it for school, I find I don't really want to play it at home.

Guitar hangs from the wall. Fretted goes on a stand. I don't use the fretted much, in a couple months it'll be my "altered tunings" bass once I get a six string set of TI flats (CGDA, ADGC, BEAD, etc.) and I fix the bridge pickup's wiring (it's out of phase).
