Straplocks

This is not another “which straplocks” post. I see so many guitars without them and I think it’s odd. My question is this: Who here does not use them and why?

I never have. I don't move around much so it was never a problem.

I use over-sized strap buttons:

It works for G&L, Ibanez, & ESP.

Because of one specific strap and bass, I bought the cheapy $3 plastic locks and they worked fine. I do not use strap locks for any other basses as I've never had an issue or worried about the bass slipping out of the strap.

Got some of the plastic ones but also got new strap (red strap on red bass..eewww..went to black strap). It was tight enough dont need to use them yet. Old bass i just used washers under strap bolts to make my own as old strap came off to easy.

For many of you,dropping a bass isn't a problem.

I don’t. Never had a problem with my basses dropping. The only time it dropped I had Schaller locks on it (they got loose like they do if you don’t tighten them often or locktite them). Luckily I caught it mid air. I just replace the strap if it gets all worn out, most strap locks have certain issues and will wear out eventually anyways. I tried LOXX last year, wasn’t sold on that little ball pin so it went off the same day. My Fender P strap button and my Stingray strap button are large enough IMO, and I use plain ol Fender and EB straps anyways, no fancy leather straps for me, so easily replaceable.

The only time it dropped I had Schaller locks on it (they got loose like they do if you don’t tighten them often or locktite them). Luckily I caught it mid air.

I had that with 1 month old Warwick with original Warwick straplocks. I caught it also.
Then i put Schallers and never had problem for more than a Year now (i used tools to tighten them on strap and it holds just fine without loctite but i do check occasionally with my Fingers)

Totally happened to me. Except when I leaned out over the elevated stage and the strap slipped off the body hit the concrete floor and split the bottom third of the body away. Only the control panel wiring between the two halves to hold them together. I imagined at the time that must be what people feel like when they look to see an appendage severed. I am now a poster boy for strap locks.

I'm in the process of changing all mine out... the Ric will be interesting, as it looks as though they are just knurled thumbscrews... unsure if it's two pieces, or one?

I DID use strap locks after my Reverend Rumblefish bass slipped off the strap and was severely damaged, i.e. the whole body had to be replaced. There was no wild body movement involved whatsoever. I do not use them anymore because I have switched to Lock-It straps.

I use these but they don't look as neutral.

I use Italia’s 4" straps. They’re so thick and fit so snugly over the strap buttons that no strap locks are needed.

G&L buttons are too tight for those if your strap end is thick, unfortunately.
Have them on all my Fenders.
