Streamliner by Bugera?

3 x 12AX7 tubes, Baxandall EQ, $499 USD

... and sitting on new cabinets that appear to be Bugera's take on Ampeg's PRO NEO line! ;)

Wow, I guess they waited until Genz Benz was out of the picture before releasing that. Except for the ridiculous volume knob and the compressor button it looks like an exact copy of the Streamliner from GB. Even down to the mid freq knob. Unreal..

I find interesting they're advertising of High Voltage MOSFET preamp for both the Bugera and Behringer models. I don't know what high voltage is, it would be very interesting if it's up in the 100's of volts. Things like resistors can be more noisier at higher voltages, and high voltage can cause wear on components. They'll change noise characteristics over time. Of course the could be saying 18v is high voltage for a pre-amp and it's not anything special.

There is a concept in intellectual property law of "trade dress," the distinctive appearance of an item. I don't know what the limits on copying trade dress are but that amp sure looks a LOT like a Streamliner.

Calling it a Veyron isn't a problem, that's just the name of a river in Switzerland.

So Beringer vs Fender (GB) in a copyright lawsuit for trade dress infringement at the least. Wonder where they got the picture of the motor for their website and where permission came from. Also wondering about real world RMS output. Peak watts don't tell me anything, except that marketing wrote the manual.

It looks like a Bugatti Veyron motor. I have a review of one in Motor Trend. Over 1000 horses, 2 million bucks.

Nope, it is not. Bugatti engine has badges on it.

They are clearly trying to pigback on this well-known supercar but I don't think they are crossing any legal line. Much like their actual products they go right up to the edge of legality though the ethics are something else entirely.

GB claims significant IP in their power section to make it mimic output transformer and tubes. I doubt B'ringer managed a reverse engineering of it but if they have, it will get bloody. Fender payed the big bucks for the GB tech.

I would love one of the manufactures who have dealt with these issues to chime in. I am definitely no expert on patent law, but I was under the assumption that it isn't that difficult to make some changes to a device and call it a new design. I have no idea how much has to be different but it seems like there are so many clones in the audio industry that there must be some sort of point where designs are considered new.

BH Photo Video has them for preorder already. 399 for the MOSFET, 499 for the Tube one, interesting. Between that and the new Rumble heads, there are some very intriguing small heads coming out.

GB patent is here:

It's a really clever way to gain maximum benefit from Icepower.

B* doesn't use Icepower, B* makes their own amps.

B*is not rating amps to Peak, RMS, or any real standard like FTC or EIA. The reason why may in fact be because of GB, and an Agedhorse response to Uli.

Invalid Link Removed

Bass amps are so specialized how could you possibly rate it the same as one would do an amp designed for say FOH? :D

Since mid last year, B* has yanked "RMS" out of their published documentation. Good for them.

It's just "2000w"
