Streamliner or Shuttle?

I went to Genz-Benz top of the line GBE1200, it is a monster and so far seems to be more dependable than my 4Pro which is now my back-up. I am sure all that is posted about Genz's smaller models are true but for me the 1200 wins out.

IMO there. My guess is, most who are drawn to the Streamliner will rarely touch a knob once the gig starts.

That's the main reason this will be my next amp. I'm a kind of set it and forget it type of guy anyway.

Well, there is too much of a volume increase with hi gain mode to make a footswitch practical. It would be like shooting off a rocket!

Maybe one day a two channel version might show up, but I was told due to the high impedance preamp's complex design, developing a switching system would be extremely challenging. So, I can't say whether this is a possibility or not.

I think this amp is deliberately simple to operate. In fact, even with the controls maxed it sounds good. Not that I suggest trying it, but they really made getting a good sound idiot proof. Of course... next thing that happens is someone builds a better idiot...

I have a Berg AE410. I play a lot of funk,slap style mixed in with oldies. I play wedding type music for lack of a better term. Which GB would suit me better:Shuttle 9.2,9.0 or Streamliner? Please help me decide.

Good question...I am debating these two amps for that same reason. The reason I'm leaning toward Streamliner, is that I read in another thread that unless you really push the GAIN, it can get a nice clean warm sound, which is what I'm really after.

I would choose the tube! Although I do like a hi-fi kinda of sound!

I am looking forward to tube rolling in the Streamliner too... With the hi voltage tube supply (300 + - ) differnt tube type may make changes..
That can be a fun experience for tweakers...

I just spent days tube rolling with a Walkabout.
Not so sure that generalities exist with preamp tubes but I had the best results with Telefunken's and Mullards; both were used and rebranded (Dynaco & Eico); about $40 each on eBay.
I tried approx 15 NOS or good used tubes including the standard Chinese and Russian stuff. Hopefully this thing sounds good enough that there will be no reason to experiment!

I agree with you.. I really think the stock tubes are very good.. My shuttle tubes have been flawless for over 2 years now... different topology though..

I mentioned it since so many folks on TB have the want to tweak things til the cows come home.. and sometime the cows dont come home..
And threads of how brand X is better than the s brand X tube rebranded etc..... ha
At times ithink people hear what they want to hear..

My father gave me boxes of tubes years and years ago.. old 60s Dynaco stuff. and many Telfunken, RCA, 12ax7s in there...
They may all sound the same.. at a Rock & Roll gig...

IMO, the only way to do it right is to have a pile of tubes, fresh ears, the same bass and cabinet, while playing the same bass line over and over, preferably with a drum machine or backing track. You can only do so much at one sitting so it comes down to multiple tests with notes until you can finally (and confidently) pick between a few and declare a winner. Not cheap nor easy.

As for tubes I'm thinking for V1 a Sylvania 6201 with the extra gain engaged for a push to the 3D'ness with total clean headroom.

Next for V2 I'm thinking a 50's long plate Mullard ECC83 to keep the low end extra fat and high end smooth.

For V4 I have a special tube waiting for it, a Blackburn Tech Tube E813CC. This tube will add a 3D and clarity to the Midrange that will not quit and with a 10,000 hour life it will be set it and forget it.

I can not wait to hear the Streamliner.

One has a 9 and the other has a 6. That's it.
