Streamliner or Shuttle?

Fortunate enough to own one of each - that is my main/backup amp rig. The identity of the "main" changes depending on the details.

I run the Shuttle flat and it sounds great. A bit more neutral. I run the Streamliner with bass around 9:00, mids @ 1:00 (600hz), treble @ 1:00, and gain to taste. Streamliner is a fatter tone and will grit up if need be. Shuttle will grit but it isn't the same.

I play in a couple of different groups - jazz ensemble that slides into soul and funk, a Steely Dan tribute band, and a funk gig. Playing Rob Allen, Roscoe, and P-Bass. Cabs are Berg AE210 (one or a pair depending on the gig). You can hear comparison recordings I did in previous threads (played the Streamliner one set, Shuttle the second set).

I do not own or dig the JJ tone, and instead love the Rob Allen thing as well as P-bass. I don't slap much. Plenty of examples of the tone I get (which is close to what I'm aiming for) here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. The recent recordings are all either Shuttle or Streamliner.

Also from the nostatic trio page, both 19mar and 20mar gigs were swapping back and forth between Streamliner and Shuttle. Not sure you can hear night/day differences.

I think the take-home lesson is that you can get close to one amp with the other, and it is hard to go wrong with either amp. If you lean more towards fat tube, the Streamliner. If you lean more towards neutral or want to veer "hi-fi" then Shuttle. No wrong answer unless you're at the extremes of tone goals.

There is a school of thought where having 2 separate amps is better than a single 2-channel amp. You have more choices about the pairing and they can serve as backups for each other.

I may be the proud owner of a Streamliner 600 tomorrow night to complement my WT550. Problem is, I don't know which will be the main and which will be the backup :)

I recently used my Streamliner 900 on a gig with Upright Bass only. No issues at all. I used the 900 with one Bergantion HT112ER cab in a stand. Of coarse I never play Upright without my trusty Fdeck pre.

Picked up the Streamliner 600 on Sunday. It's a nice little amp. Next to the Shuttle 6.0 it sounded more "oldschool" which was what I wanted.

Streamliner is better at vintage tubey sounds,
Shuttle is better at Hi-Fi modern sound.

As far as versatility,
the Streamliner does great vintage and pretty good clean,
the Shuttle does great clean and not that great vintage.

I went with the Streamliner as I felt it was more versatile.

IMHO, YMMV.

I had the Shuttle 6.0.
Now I finally have that rich, thick, full, 3D that I had given up on - in my STL-900.
I'm not old school either. Once more:
I finally have that rich, thick, full, 3D tone with a Streamliner 900 and Avatar TB153 (15/6/1)

Hey there GB owners, i need a little advice.
I am looking to buy a used genz benz amp, and have the option of a more used Shuttle 6 for 300-350, or a slightly used streamliner 600 for 495.

I did the research on both, and i would be happy with either.
the question is, does the streamliner being a newer model warrant me spending an extra $200 or more?

So how do we think a streamliner 900 would sound through an avatar b410? Do we think it would be a "best of both worlds" scenario? Or would they fight each other? I'm going for a dubby reggae dance-rock sound...I'll pretty much never need fuzzy distortion, just want fat dub tones but with enough clarity to be melodic.

On the other hand, it sounds like the shuttle 9.2 is less finnicky in boomy/iffy rooms? Which is, naturally, an essential quality for gigging around...

Shuttle or streamliner??

With your stated goals, I'd think a Streamliner is a better fit - I haven't had a problem getting mine to work well in a variety of rooms... I did put a 5751 in the V1 slot, and that tightened up the lows a little, and brought out the mids a little more - I definitely like it better that way...
