Double Bass String buzz on E-- 1/4 sized Englehardt

Hi-
I am trying to set up a 1/4-sized Englehardt. Yeah, a little weird. Two questions on E-string buzz on this. (Buzzing at about F#)
1) Any ideas about how to raise the nut slightly? Any inserts around?
2) Anyone know where I can get tapewound strings for a 1/4 sized? All I can find are D'Addario flat steels.

Raising the nut will not help with buzzing from stopped notes. A too-deep nut slot will only cause buzzing on open strings. What's likely is that the fingerboard needs some work.

As the esteemed Mr. @AGCurry Has mentioned, the nut is not the issue, fingerboard relief likely is and that needs to be carved into the fingerboard. However, to raise a nut slot you can mix some ebony sawdust and superglue, partially fill the slot and re-file it. Again that’s not your issue, but fyi for future reference.

Or, as an option to having the fingerboard re-dressed, you might try putting some sort of thin shim in the E-notch on the bridge.

tapewound strings for a 1/4 sized?

The 1/4 bass scale is a bit longer than a standard long-scale electric bass. LaBella may offer something in an extra-long electric-bass string that could be adapted to your needs.

Possibly, it's worth a try. But in addition to the 35 1/4" mensure, you've got all that after-length to the tailpiece to consider. You might do better getting a set of used strings off TB Classifieds and cutting them down to length.
