string - pup misallignment

i'd contact Ernie Ball and just get new saddles for it. if you use the ones that you have, you'll probably have to make all of them a bit narrower to fit in between the two hex bolts, and narrow both sides on all of them the exact same amount. it could be done, but unless you have the skills and equipment necessary to do it, getting new ones would be ALOT easier.

Just want to mention that all EBMM's have this problem. Not to the degree this bass does, though. It obviously has the wrong saddles--but even after that gets fixed, the strings will still not be quite aligned with the pole pieces. They'll be a LOT better, though.

Egads, is time for bridge fix or replacement. Howd those wrong saddles get on there? Lol.

For pup height adjustment is best by ear. For each pup and including any angle for E-G side. Around 2/16 inch to 3/16 inch is good range to muck about in on my humbucker equpted bass. The bridge ones at about 1/8 inch and the neck ones at about 3/16.

Hopes you can get replacement saddles for that bridge fairly easy.

Really, let me ask, does anyone have a bass that the G would intonate there? Usually I see them follow the slope of the others.

here's how where they line up when intonated on mine:

I used to own a Dean 10 string where the pickups were too wide for the strings. It sounded fine with all 10 strings.

I have found that I am able to use a 4 string pickup on a 5 string bass and it works 95% of the time.

Probably the worst fail for the pickups not aligning with the strings was the ill fated 4004cii5. This is unfortunate because it had the potential to be an excellent bass. But the pickups were too narrow. The pickups have 2 1/4" steel rails and the strings are 2 3/4" spaced. :crying: I really wanted this to be a good bass because I love Rics and I love 5 string basses ...

Contact Earnie Ball customer service , tell them you have purchased a used bass and need new saddles and screws .

EBMM cannot help him in this case. EB has not had those 'center groove' saddles available since 1992/93. The bridges and saddles changed after that. He is on his own.

The new Classic bridges use offset saddles much like the regular production MM's have used since the mid 90's. And the Classics are a tad taller.

well, since his are slotted in the center, i'd just machine the ones he has to be narrower and be done with it.
