Hey, what up guys. I am looking for some strings that would would for tuning down a whole step. I play a 5-string and the music, as you may have guessed, is pretty heavy. Right now I am playing on some DR Low riders, which sound pretty good, but have to much high end and buzz. Any suggestions? It would be nice to reduce the floppy feel as much as possible.

ADGCF? At least a .145 for the A. In my experience D'Addario ProSteels .145s are excellent, flexible, bright and aggressive. They're only available as singles though.
Circle K do sets for any amount of detuning and also 'Drop Tune' sets designed to have equal tension on each string in tunings such as AEADG.

Hmmm - I tune in D Standard 4, and I find that 50-105 or 50-110 work just fine. Then again, I'm a fan of brightness in my tone, so you might want a 55 on the top.
As for the A, I can't help you, but I would think, as others have said, that you're looking at a 145 at the very least.

What's your scale length? Hopefully at least 35-inch or you're gonna have a fair amount of "flop" no matter how heavy you go.

Not true - at .150 his A will be as tight as a .100 E string. At .142 he'll have the same tension as a .095 does at E.

And I'll preface this was saying I am of course aware of Circle K and may go that way in the future but for now I'm looking to do this with either D'Addario or EB singles.
I've just ordered a custom set of D'Addario XL singles to do ADGCF tuning. I've been using the Power Slinky set (50-70-85-105-135) and it's not bad but I want something closer to the tension I'm used to.
I went with the following gauges:
145-125-95-70-50.
Looking at the D'Addario tension chart this seems to give a somewhat balanced set. I intend to frequently drop the 125 D to C so I think 125 is appropriate there. It just seems weird to have such a heavy string as my second lowest string.
Does this set look decent or am I way off?
