[/QUOTE]Damn, that board is gorgeous. I haven't seen a recent photo with the Noble. It's like the Mercedes of pedal boards.

Hey everyone, I wanted to start a Strymon bass club here on TB...
That is one really cool thing about my board right which I primarily use for bass, it sounds great with guitar. I never play guitar live although I have been toying with the idea of getting something like a baritone guitar (like a fender Bass VI or something) because ambient effects sound so much clearer on instruments with higher octaves. I'd say there are 2 things that have really made it possible for me to explore effects in a way that I don't hear many bass players using them.
One is playing with a group of musicians that don't define their musical roles in traditional terms (bass is supposed to hang out on the first 5 frets and hold it down, keys and guitar add the texture to a song ect.) It is possible for bass to be melodic and for guitar to hold it down with some thick chords. Some of that has come from a place of having holes in our line up. I've played in a few 3 piece bands now where it's just a rhythm electric, or a full band at a church that has no keys or guitar. There is a big gaping hole in the mix to fill up some sonic space.
The second is having an instrument that sounds clear enough to hear those individual reflections coming off the wall from a Big Sky. My primary bass is a bright sounding Ash/maple/single coils bass that Lakland made for me. The special thing is having this 5 string strung E-high C. I can chord and I hear the individual notes and they don't clash. This is huge for making effects work on bass (at least for me) I have a couple basses that just sound awesome and fat and groove hard but put some reverb and multiple delays on and it gets to be a pile of mud SUPER quick!
All this to say, I do piss off a lot of guitarists and sound men who are like "what are those sounds he's making?!?!" but at least I feel like I can express myself musically...and after all, Isn't that all what we're trying to do?
uuwwaa look at this guy with all his Strymon glory over here......![]()
Cheers.
Say, didn't you have a TWA-GD at one stage? It's not something I use all that much on bass, but when I do... ha ha.
I really like using it alone, or going into a fuzz for a super thick, yet crunchy upper octave tone that'll feedback gently, and should you feed that into an oscillating delay it's a lot of fun for noise making.
Timeline covers the AD4096 you say? Huh.One of the attractions of analog delays for me are the way they oscillate, especially when you increase the repeats and let them run away. I'm a big fan of certain delays due to the way they degrade.
I've been looking at the DMMTT-1100/550 for the run-away oscillation feature hands-free, and the brighter nature of these delays may work better with bass.
Does the Timeline run away if you hold down the tap button?
Should you let it run away and bend over to fiddle with knobs like the mix and speed/rate, does it behave like an analog delay would, or does the preset/digi nature prevent this from sounding realistic? I mean, does changing the speed/rate knob during oscillation result in the oscillation increasing/decreasing pitch like an analog delay would, or do you get digital anomalies like the El Cap & Brigadier do?
I've seen some demo's of the Brig/El Cap that put me off for this reason...
Nice! Yeah I play both aswell, and currently in a 3-piece too, hence my choice in drives (Timmy/Barbershop) which work well with both.
I don't think I could get away with using delay with bass, if I was in a bigger band. We're all useful on various instruments, we're trying to talk our drummer into pulling out his mandolin at some stage in a set during a quiet instrumental section.
I tune a fair bit lower, CFA#D#, and aim for a pretty thick tone using flats, but I do leave the tone knob on my passives fairly open-ish. I guess this is why I'm not using reverb! Funnily enough though, when I plug in my guitars, I tend to run the gats with a completely open tone knob and only ever change the tone knobs on the Timmy, everything else stays the same (yay for small victories!)
Heya! Thanks @IngloriousOz for starting this thread and for the PM. Strymon makes great stuff and I love my Mobius. I'm generally a club avoider so you don't have to add me to the list. However I'm happy to participate in the thread and hopefully I'll see and hear some cool poop, and learn a thing or two.
Besides the Mobius I've also had a Timeline BlueSky and El Capitan in the past and I am always wondering about the Deco.

The Mobius is where all of my modulations come from other than filters which I get from the Xerograph and deFormer, although the filters in the Mobius are pretty great too. I don't use the modulations on my H9 because to me they are not half as good as the Mobius.
About a month ago Strymon posted an interesting Mobius preset for the Quadrature machine using an envelope on the carrier frequency. Worth checking out if you missed it: Invalid Link Removed
I'll put a little polish on my own presets and maybe share some at a later time.
Anybody here use or try their compressor?
In with a Lex. Great pedal. I use it with a B9/C9 organ machine.

OK, here are a few clips... basically all live looped, so yah, there are gonna be some flubs in there! All sounds are played through my 6-string bass -signal chain: Blue Sky - El Cap - Deco- Boss RC-30 Looper - Apogee 1 - Garage Band
The slap-back is pretty cool for chords, haven't really played a lot of lower register with that kind of sound yet. Also used the Blue Sky, and a tiny bit of modulation from the Deco on the palm-muted bass line.
This one is more of an ambient non-metered bit where I tried to get a low-fi sound to counteract the clarity of the Strymon pedals by adjusting the output of my looper. Heavy on the El Cap.
And a primarily Deco clip here with some El Cap knob twiddling thrown in. I put a bit of tape saturation on the bass line trying to get a mild synth sound. The lead part uses both the tape saturation and chorus/flanging. The saturation knob was close to 3 o'clock, which is just shy of all the way open. I wouldn't usually use settings like this and it's pretty obvious that I don't have a good idea on how to work with these sounds just yet, but wanted to grab some low notes with heavy saturation to hopefully give an idea of how the pedal handles the low frequencies, turning off the modulation side at the end soloing just the Deco's tape saturation.
