It's threads like this that remind me why I keep coming back to TB. Perhaps it's just the nature of bass players, but it's pretty rare that the musician himself pops in to answer your questions. Or it could just be the nature of Stu.

Stu Brooks (Dub Trio) Distortion

Hello. I'm Maki. I'm a very dumb person. A buddy of mine said he would get tix for the dub trio/bad brains show and when I called to figure out the plan, he just laughed at me. There's no show tonight. I missed it. I had wrong dates. Wrong venue. Just wrong wrong wrong. Hello, I am a complete tard. :scowl:
maki, i feel your pain--i had been looking forward to the dallas show for weeks, but needed to stay home and care for the little one
i also had to miss fishbone 2 nights earlier so i could make rehearsal too, if that makes you feel any less bad

Meh. That's perfectly acceptable. I have a little guy. I get that. This is a case of me getting stoked to see a show that didn't exist, and chatting up the bass player of the band that I thought was playing. Lmao. Stu probably just thought I was just another casualty from sniffing glue. Man I'm dumb.

Great studio tone, Stu. Love the new album, one of the most creative collections of riffs I heard in the last couple of years. I saw you two years ago with Peeping Tom in Belgium. Keep it up. Your tone makes me want an AG500. ;-)
so i have been digging the dub trio for a few years now; just got Another Sound is Dying on itunes. Stu is a tone god, no question about it.
i am curious though, does he/do you use a pick for those heavier, metal-type riffs?
unfortunately, i haven't seen them/you live yet. In some of the youtube clips i've seen, it looks like he is all finger-style, but as the clips aren't focused on "stu brook's right hand technique," i'm not certain.

Picks- Dunlop Tortex 1mm
