Studio monitors around $300

The little JBL's, the little Yamahas, KRK's are useful. Mackies are fine but I've found them a little fatiguing, I've heard good things about Kali, mixed things about Presonus.

If you have a decent stereo amp laying around, NHT Super Ones or Paradigm Mini Monitors used are next level, IMO.

Older Events (20/20bas) are pretty good, with a little dip in the middle to my ear. Tannoy Reveals were the best "generic MI" ones a few years ago.

Bet there's something used around you - the studio I just set for my daughter has NHT Classic Threes I got for $300, and a nice early Marantz 80w/side amp. I could happily put out a record on just those and some Grado headphones.

Room will be around 15' x 10'.
A lot of people say 8" monitors are too much for a small room. Thoughts?
the size of the room doesn't mean a thing in your case:
- you'll be getting reference monitors for near-field use.
- lighting up the room with low frequencies isn't your goal....
- if it is: you'll have to spend more!
- if you go with bigger, more robust and more expensive options = your room will have to be treated.

Look, I know there are good $300 monitors out there. Plenty of professional engineers make recommendations in that price range. I was hoping for advice in that price range, not people telling me why I'm not spending enough money. If I wanted that, I could go to an audiophile forum.
you've been given some good options for your budget! good luck with your near-field mixing!

Adam T7V’s are a good buy for a couple of extra bucksView attachment 3918114
Totally agree!! These monitors punch Way way way above their weight class!! Like they sound SOOO close to the way more expensive Adam monitors! One of the BEST deals in studio monitors. Especially price to performance ratio.

The Yamaha HS series are quite good as well and you can often find really good deals on them.
