Stuff you hate that young people like.

Most modern music
Emos
Dance music
CDs (cassettes rock)
iPods.

Cassettes rock!?!? OK...I have to argue with that...

Vinyl rocks. It has all that lovely warmth, pops notwithstanding.

CD's rock. They last much longer than cassettes.

MP3 files rock. You can load 1,000 of them into a lovely little box the size of your palm. And then plug that into a cheap surround-sound system from WalMart.

Even 8 tracks rock, because they outlasted the machines that played them.

But cassettes? They are portable, and easily recordable, but their "rocking" aspect ends there. The sound on them sux. They break and otherwise malfunction relatively easily.

Cassettes...meh.

My opinion of course...but...cassettes?

This generation isnt the first to wear tight pants. The first time I bought them is because I thought they looked cool on Robert Plant when I saw Song Remains the Same.

As a female, I must say that I have nothing whatsoever against tight pants, as long as the guy wearing them looks like Robert Plant did back then.

Oiiiiiiii...whew!!! Hottie.

Cherie ;)

I AM that big, burly "Tejano" cook at Juan In A Million! And I don't call burritos wraps. I call burritos burritos ... and I'm non-violent ... and resent the implication.

You are!?!? DUDE, you make the most awesome burritos!!! I used to eat there all the time when I worked downtown.

I didn't call the burritos wraps, I swear. But we do wrap food, a lot, in all manner of things, here. I was just being economical with the language. :) I'm from the RGV, hon. I know that "wraps" come from California. ;)

You can give someone all manner of hail without ever layin' a hand on 'em. Being non-violent, I know you know that.

Your burritos are muy macho. That's no joke, either! I have a hard time with just one, but they are so worth it.

Things my parents said from 1977-1981...

TURN THAT NOISE OFF!!! What kind of musicians call themselves AC/DC!?!? Highway to he11??? That music is of the devil!

Cherie, that neckline is way too low! Why do you girls think that cheap cotton from India is so pretty?

Cherie, take those safety pins out of your ears, and put on a shirt with no holes in it!!! For heaven's sake, why do you want to go around looking so ugly, when you are such a pretty girl?

Cherie, stop seeing that boy!!! He drives that car too fast, and his hair is too long!!! Don't you walk out the door looking like that, young lady! Those jeans are too tight!!!

Cherie, it is 10 a.m. If you don't get out of that bed and cut this grass/machete the alley/paint that side of the house, you are not going anywhere, do you hear me, young lady!

YOU BLEW MY SPEAKERS LISTENING TO ***THAT JUNK***!!!??? You are going NOWHERE!!!

How can you study with that music on? Are you still practicing??? CHERIE, DO YOUR GEOMETRY!!!

But, you know...Soooooo much has changed since then...

;)

Actually, Cherie, that all seems like pretty sound advice to me. :p

CDs (cassettes rock)

I guess you must LOVE how all your music has that constant HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS in the background.

I'll sell you my cassettes. Oh, wait, I digitized all my music and used Dolby DBX to hide the hiss. Too late.

I'm misanthropic. The particular modifier doesn't really matter.

Plus I just wanted to see if anyone would catch that. Congrats. If I ever see you I'll buy you a Coke.

Just checking. :D

Several years ago, we were sitting on a friend's front porch when a compact car drove by, loud thumping every foot of the way. My friend just muttered, "now I know how my parents felt."

Truth is, I can't "hate" much of what kids like today. It's all fad and fashion; the good parts will last and the tasteless will fade away. Cell phones and texting have their place, but rude people who use these technologies without concern for others cross all age barriers. The same with internet networking, "fart cans", "reality shows", tatoos, etc. and etc. I'm glad I never did any silly, stupid stuff that ticked the old folks off when I was a kid . . . :rollno:

But just because I don't "hate" it doesn't mean I like it, either.

What bothers me most about our current society is how whole lifestyles seem to be marketed to people, just the same as underwear and soda pop. And in order to keep corporate growth going, the "lifestyle de jour" needs change on a regular basis. The youth, perhaps more malleable and/or unformed in their core identity, seem to adopt it quicker than us old folks, who've seen it all before. And for those of us whose years of getting knocked around have jaded to all the jabber directed our way to "buy this thing" or "that thing" -- well, we shake our head in wonderment at these kids today. But really, it's us. We convince them they want it, and sell it to them.

Has anyone seen the movie "Idiocracy"?

nostalgia? how old are you? Like, in your 30's?

TheBigO beat to my answer. CDs were commercially introduced in 1980.

Introduced, yes, but not all that common for some time after that. I'm 31 and I remember tapes still being really prevalent when I was a young kid. But by the mid to late 80's nobody bought cassettes outside of blank ones for making mix tapes.

Makes sense to me.

I'm relatively conflicted. I hate white kids/college guys who seem to legitimately think that they're 'hood' just because they wear their shorts around their knees. But I'm white, and I enjoy blasting Dr. Dre/NWA/Pac/E in my car, when I'm in that kind of mood. By no means do I think that it makes me hood, but I do feel somewhat hypocritical at times.

I don't know; maybe I just like what I like. Some of it may be nostalgic (growing up during the 90's and hearing it), but I find that there are certain things from every generation worth holding onto that can somewhat resemble the more shallow, fad-based crap that makes up most of what you see and hear. I text on occasion, but I find the kids who obsess with it rather pathetic. Does that make me a hypocrite? I don't know, I like to think not, since I'm fairly well spoken and well read for my age, but I suppose it's not really for me to decide.
